Review
Celtic were one down from the first leg at Anfield and Stirling shocked the Parkhead crowd by taking the lead in 12 minutes when Matt McPhee fired home a free kick through the Celtic wall at the second attempt.
Celtic, who were at full strength, equalised when Dom Sullivan smashed a glorious 25 shot past the Stirling keeper Gordon Arthur.
For the rest of the game Celtic huffed and puffed and struggled to break down Stirling's resistance much to the frustration of their supporters. This was until three minutes from time when Tommy Burns cut in from the left, played a one-two, and smashed the ball into the net from a tight angle. Celtic's relief was clear and Burns ran to the Jungle and celebrated with the delighted Celtic fans.
In extra time manager Billy McNeill threw on the young prodigy Charlie Nicholas for George McCluskey. With Stirling tiring Celtic fired in four goals in 16 minutes with Nicholas scoring two, his first ever goals in the hoops, one in particular a splendid flashing header from a Provan cross.
