Trivia
- Celtic make an enjoyable trip to Hong Kong.
- Celtic were paid £20,000 for travelling to the Far East. Billy McNeill stated that Celts would have had handed back half of the fee had they lost.
Review
Celtic sent a team out to the Far East to take part in this mini-tournament and play an exhibition game against Hong Kong Rangers. There was a free weekend as the team had previously been knocked out of the Scottish Cup on 13th February by Aberdeen.
Jimmy Bone, ex Celtic and St Mirren, and Steve Paterson, later of Inverness Cally Thistle and sacked Aberdeen manager, were playing for Hong Kong Rangers at that time.
Although 28,000 tickets were sold there was only an attendance of 5319 due to an atrocious period of heavy rain. The game was fortunate to take place and finish. Had it been a competitive match it may have been postponed.
The humidity was said to be stamina sapping.
