Review
A tight game with no scoring in the first half. Dundee Utd put Celtic through the ringer at Tannadice. United had clawed back the two goal deficit and were pushing for a likely winner in the 90th minute when Celtic struck on the break. Burns carried the ball forward and released Nicholas through the centre. McAlpine raced from his goal and Nicholas stretched to steer the ball past him for a dramatic winner. The Celtic players and fans in the packed Tannadice ground went mad with delight.

United cut back the deficit in the 52nd minute when Dodds got in a cross which Sturrock blasted against Bonner. Aitken got in the way of the rebound shot from Sturrock and knocked the ball over the line. Sturrock set the tie alight when he scored and levelled the tie 13 minutes later. A free kick from Narey beat the Celtic defence, Bonner hesitated and Sturrock raced in to flick the ball into the net. United's John Holt, who had previously been booked, was then sensationally ordered off in the 78th minute after a foul on Burns. With only two minutes remaining United were caught on the break. Burns pushed the ball into open space and Nicholas, with only McAlpine to beat, hammered the ball past him to put Celtic into the Final.
