Trivia
- Prior to the game Tommy Burns was presented with the Fans Club Player of the Year trophy.

- This was the first time this season that the game had not been preceded by a mid-week fixture.
- Also eight players had been away on international duty: Roy Aitken with the full Scotland squad; Charlie Nicholas, Mark Reid, Paul McStay and Danny Crainie were with the U21s; Ronnie Coyle, John Sludden and Peter Grant were with the U18s in Monaco..
- Nicholas missed a penalty.
Review
This was a physical game and Hugh Sproat was fortunate not to be ordered off for an assault on McCluskey outside the area.
Celtic only clicked when McCluskey came on and thereafter the goals came.
