Match Report
After the disappointing narrow victory of midweek, Celtic fans were looking for plenty of goals on this sunny afternoon at Celtic Park.
They got none.
Changes in the team were made, with Davie Provan being rested and Danny Crainie taking over the number seven. Paul McStay had a groin strain and handed over the number eight shorts to Youth International team-mate Jim Dobbin.
New signing Brian Whittaker came in at left-back and saw Mark Reid sit on the bench with Brian McClair who was replaced by frank McGarvey.
None of these replacements disgraced himself, though none shone like the fifth change man. Willie McStay was called on at very short notice to fill the number five position when Tom McAdam failed a Saturday morning test.
The 21-year-old defender got the full backing of the Celtic support from the very early stages of the match with confident tackles and positive passing.
Other bright spots were very hard to find for Celtic fans. Brechin fans on the other hand, although not seeing their team qualify, can look forward to the coming season with confidence.Home Brechin LC
