Review
A gale force wind spoiled this game as a spectacle.
Celtic took the lead when McClair blasted in a fine pass from Willie McStay and then Melrose had a goal chalked off for a narrow offside.
Saints equalised from a fine volley by McDougall and were a constant threat through McAvennie and McDougall.
Celtic's winner came after a low Burns shot had struck the post.
The ball came back to McStay who showed superb control too chest and volley and the ball caught in the wind and swirled over Billy Thomson.
