Celtic rode their luck slightly in Madrid and came away with a valuable draw.
David Hay's tactics were spot on and Celtic frustrated their Spabish opponents. Johnston scored the vital away goal to make it 1-1 after a wonderful header from a fine Provan cross.
In 76 minutes Atletico were awarded a penalty but Bonner, who played brilliantly throughout, made a fine save from Rubio's kick.
