Review
An early goal and a late goal sealed the victory in this totally unexciting game. Celtic took the lead after 3 minutes. Mo Johnston won possession and waited till McClair was in the perfect spot before laying the ball onto him to shoot home. Even earlier than that Johnston and Smith had teamed up for a Smith shot which just slipped by the post. And with that Celtic's progress slowed and the game fudded along to half time.
In the second half Airdrie came out somewhat more fired up. They had a goal by Templeton chalked off for offside when a sluggish Celtic defense let a pass over the top through. With 20 minuites left Aitken started rallying the troops and forcing the pace so that Celtic dominated without scoring. Then three minutes before full time substitute McInally combined with Tommy Burns to send in McClair to score.
