Review
A Paul McStay inspired Celtic dominated the first half, creating several chances to score, but went in at the interval just one goal up. The penalty was on the soft side, with Maurice Malpas sliding in to challenge Andy Walker and catching the ball with his arm. Just before half time Roy Aitken appeared to handle the ball and it was an aggrieved United who went in at half time. Dundee United had the edge in the second half with substitute Mixu Paatelainen causing problems for the defence and linking up well with Kevin Gallacher. They combined to set up an equaliser for Iain Ferguson, who ten minutes later missed an easy chance to put United ahead. Celtic's rhythm was disrupted by the withdrawal through injury of Peter Grant, with Tommy Burns replacing him for his first appearance since early November. In the final minutes Chris Morris crossed for Joe Miller to score with a rare headed goal to give Celtic the win.
