Review
A somewhat dull goal-less draw seen on live TV. A great deal of debate had gone on concerning the televising of live games and this first from Celtic Park wasn’t exactly a great advertisement for the game. McGhee had a good game but picked up a leg knock which he carried into the replay.
“It was particularly disappointing because the game was watched by millions live on television. I had previously thought that this would present a fine opportunity for my skilled players to show a watching public just how fluently Celtic can play. Sadly it just didn’t come off and credit to Hibs. They quelled the threat carried by our more inspirational players especially Paul McStay and Joe Miller.
“I’m confident we can go and get a result at Easter Rd. Despite not playing well on Sunday we still created several clear cut chances. If we had drawn Hibs away from home in the first instance I would have fancied our chances to progress further.
“Nothing has changed now as far as that is concerned.”
On the involvement of 6 Celtic players in the midweek Scotland Friendly away to Saudi Arabia McNeill said:
” Any successful side has to cope with these problems. And I think we have a pool that can cope. Sunday was but a temporary setback. You will see a very determined Celtic side in the replay, anxious to book their place in the Quarter Finals.”
