- The game that ultimaltely lost Brady with the support but it was still time till he did resign.
- Celtic fans were drenched in this match as their end was uncovered (the Huns end was covered).
- Rangers defeat Celtic to reach the 1992 Scottish cup final despite being down to 10 men for 80minutes of the match. Davie Robertson was shown a straight red card by Andrew Waddell for a bodycheck on Joe Miller.
- Ally McCoist scored the only goal of the game just before half-time and Rangers held on in the second half despite determined play by Celtic.
- 2017: 'Cheating Huns': Archie Knox (Rangers Vice manager) revealed (in a Oct 2017 interview)he once paid ball boys at Hampden a fiver to slow down Celtic in the second half ofthis Scottish Cup semi-final. Rangers were a goal to the good but a man down after David Robertson was sent off. Knox says he grabbed a ball boy as half-time was finishing, gave him £5 and told him to “tell his pals” to take their time in returning the football at throw-ins and goal-kicks. March 1992.
Celtic, under Liam Brady, are playing some damn decent football. We've won 11 straight games or thereabouts, including a pretty convincing 2-0 win at Ibrox 10 days previously. Now we're at Hampden, playing in the Scottish Cup semi final against Rangers, with Airdrie waiting for the winners in the final.
The game is played in a tempest straight from the bowels of hell.
It's 1-0 to Rangers. But they're down to 10 men and Celtic are dominating. And I mean dominating. Amidst the litany of missed chances Paul McStay fires a 25 yard shot off the underside of the bar. IF it'd gone in… aside from it being one of the great goals, there's a very real chance Celtic go on to win the Scottish Cup and Brady gets a good bit longer as manager. And then there's the blatant penalty which got ignored.
That game basically finished Brady at Celtic. The team, which had been progressing, was never the same. Would winning that match and lifting the Scottish Cup have given Brady extra time?? Would it have given the board breathing room??
Also – at number two in my most painful moments list – is the Peter Grant shot at Ibrox in 96. It was the 9 in a row season. Celtic were – again – trailing 1-0. Grant's shot hit the post, spun along the line and blatantly defied physics to avoid going in. It was physically impossible for the ball to stay out. Granted, we'd probably still have lost, but that shot still haunts me.

Archie Knox paid Hampden ball boys to slow down Celtic

Archie Knox has revealed that he once paid the ball boys at Hampden to slow down Celtic as the Parkhead side sought an equaliser in a Scottish Cup semi-final.
Knox was assistant manager of Rangers when they faced off against their bitter rivals for the chance to meet Airdrieonians in the 1992 showpiece match.
Top of the Premier Division table at the time and favourites for the match, Rangers’ chances took a hit when David Robertson was sent off early in the game.
Despite this, Ally McCoist gave Walter Smith’s side the lead before half-time. Knox, though, was still concerned about a second half fightback and approached a rather unusual source for some assistance.

Writing in his autobiography, School of Hard Knox, he wrote: “David Robertson had been sent off after just a handful of minutes for booting Joe Miller up in the air. Ally McCoist scored before half-time – you can still see my celebrations in the YouTube footage – and I knew Celtic would throw everything at us in the second half.
“I went out before the second half kicked off and grabbed one of the ball boys at Hampden. I asked if he was a Rangers fan and he said “yes”. So I gave him a fiver and told him to get the message round his pals. If the ball went out for a Celtic throw-in, just leave it until the Celtic fans throw it back. If the ball goes out for a Rangers throw-in, just leave it full stop.
“I watched him go round all four sides of the Hampden pitch telling his pals not to go for the ball. We needed every advantage we could get and we managed to hang on for the win.”
