Quick Review
After the disappointment of losing to Legia Warsaw 48 hours ago, the Hoops were determined to produce a performance for the Polish public and were first to threaten. Jiri Jarosik’s neat footwork created space for Mulgrew on the left, but his cross narrowly eluded Beattie.
However it was Wisla – who eliminated Celtic from the 1976 UEFA Cup first round in the clubs’ only previous meeting – who struck first in five minutes. A mazy run by the impressive Paulista ended with the perfect cut-back for Kryszalowicz and he placed a left-foot finish beyond David Marshall.
Celtic, with summer signing Jarosik partnering Beattie up front, probed for an equaliser and Paul Lawson’s deep corner was just too high for the Czech Republic internationalist in the 20th minute.
Wisla added a second on the half-hour mark. Kryszalowicz driven cross broke to the edge of the box and Jacob Burns’ drive crept past Marshall and nestled in the corner.
Jarosik threatened from a Lawson corner as Celtic tried to get back into the match, and then he flashed a drive over the bar from fully 25 yards.
Wisla could have added a third before half-time. Kryszalowicz outfoxed McManus and his curling left-foot shot skimmed the post.
McGeady, who had shown glimpses of his trademark trickery, burst to life on the right flank in 48 minutes, but his vicious delivery was punched away by Dolha as Jarosik waited to pounce.
Celtic’s next chance came from a free-kick on the edge of the box in 55 minutes. However, Stilian Petrov’s effort was blocked by the wall. Two minutes later, Wilson’s cross was met by Jarosik and his volley arrowed past the post.
Jarosik, who impressed throughout the 90 minutes, had another effort on goal when he met McGeady’s pinpoint corner. But the former Chelsea man’s header bounced into the side netting.
Celtic gave the Wisla fans the moment they craved when they brought Zurawski into the fray. The Wisla crowd, as one, rose to applaud the man who fired them to three consecutive titles in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
However, the Polish striker, fresh from World Cup duty, couldn’t spark a late comeback for Celtic as Wisla held on for the victory to claim the special centenary trophy.

WISLA KRAKOW fans paid tribute to club icon and current Celtic striker Maciej Zurawksi as the Hoops’ second match of their three-day pre-season tour of Poland ended in defeat.
