Review

Rewind to the 90s. We haven't dominated a game so much for so long yet they had one shot on target and scored. We had a fair goal chopped off wrongly and then made it difficult. We should have won comfortably but didn't. Disappointing but there's a long way to go.

How Walter Smith and his players escaped with a point in this Old Firm derby will remain a mystery for years to come. It will surely also rankle with Tony Mowbray, an exasperated Celtic manager, for just as long.
Just two minutes after Scott McDonald, the substitute, had finally rewarded Celtic's litany of scoring opportunities with a goal after 79 minutes, Lee McCulloch rose to head a Rangers equaliser with the Ibrox side's first and only chance of the match. "We got away with a game that we didn't put anything into," Smith, the Rangers manager, said. "Celtic created a whole set of chances and were far better."
Time after time, Celtic invaded Allan McGregor's area, but, on at least seven occasions when a goal looked likely, the home side managed to miss the target. There was also, six minutes from time, an unforgettable save from McGregor, tipping Georgios Samaras's effort over the bar, which represented one final Rangers escape.
Celtic also had a grievance to accompany a sense of bad luck. The decision by the referee, Steve Conroy, to disallow Marc-Antoine Fortuné's "goal" after 19 minutes was utterly mystifying. The Celtic striker rose with McGregor to meet Aiden McGeady's miscued shot and simply nodded the ball home from five yards. To the naked eye there seemed little wrong with Fortuné's challenge for the ball, even less so when the television evidence was considered.
For Mowbray, the litany of Celtic missed chances must have been excruciating.
Green-and-white hooped players burst into the Rangers box repeatedly — McGeady, Samaras and Barry Robson among them — only to somehow pass up the chances.
Samaras, clean through in the first half, shot wide of McGregor's right post, while McGeady did likewise in the second half. On more than one occasion Mowbray rolled his eyes heavenward at his team's wastefulness.
A Robson header that hit the the crossbar after 34 minutes was, amid a glut of other chances, a perfect summation of these 90 minutes.

"We played on the front foot. We pushed them back.

"I think we felt we had done enough to come away with three points.
"I thought the referee had a good game. He obviously saw a free kick against Fortune and gave it. You have to abide by the decisions.
"I am trying to build a team not just to win the league this season but for the next four or five years and hopefully our brand of football will do that in the long run."
Rangers manager Walter Smith:
"We were very fortunate to get a draw. Celtic started the better side.

"Celtic played very well. It was a tough afternoon for a lot of our boys.
"I felt the second half we did a little bit better.
