  • Celtic go 2pts clear with +9 Goal difference to Huns!!!! Both have played equal games now!
  • Rangers have played two games of late and lost 3-2 to Dundee Utd but won 2-0 to St Johnstone last night. So both have now played equal matches.
  • Celtic Team wore shirts with their names in Japanese script rather than latin script, as in memory to those who died in the recent Japanese earthquake. The shirts were to later be auctioned to raise funds.
  • Hooper missed chance for a hat-trick with a late penalty miss.

Excellent first half, and an understandable second half.
Almost looked like we were trying to conserve energy at times for upcoming games, knowing this one was already won.
Some excellent performances as well notably Kayal, who should be sponsored by Lucozade, Ledley who was absolutely terrific and controlled much of what we did in midfield, switching play as well as moving with the ball from side to side for the openings. And Charlie Mulgrew who put in a performance that Roy Aitken would have been proud of with several good runs.
Link up play between Hooper and Stokes was superb at times.
With maybe a wee bit of composure at times could have been key to more goals.

Slightly worrying was the amount of times Izaguirre was caught upfield.
At times Mulgrew had the ball just outside our penalty area, looking to the left and Izzy was already into the opposition half.
Got caught with the ball behind him a few times, and I think that is something we will have to watch for.

Hibs moved the ball well at times, and closed us down quickly, however I thought apart from a wee 5-10 minute spell in the second half where we seemed a bit spooked, we coped very well.

Same again on Saturday and lets see what the monkeys do.
After their result last night, we cannot afford to take St Mirren lightly.

Pretty much the same team with maybe Commons for Forrest who just hasn't been the same since he came back from injury.
Seemed to let his head go down after one wayway pass last night.
Would be good if we can get a good lead as early as possible and rest a couple of players, notably Kayal, Brown and Izzy.

Read a full match report of the SPL match between Celtic and Hibernian at Parkhead on Wednesday April 6, 2011, kick-off 19.45BST.

Faster, sharper and, above all, hungrier than Hibernian, Celtic last night swept the Edinburgh team aside as they regained their status as league leaders after Rangers’ brief interruption of their tenure the previous evening. Celtic’s efficiency combined with Hibs’ indulgent defence meant that the event was over as a contest before Euan Norris blew for half- time.
The difference was that between a side with the major prize to play for and an outfit whose destiny as finishers in the bottom six was made all the more likely by Motherwell’s victory over Dundee United at Fir Park. Colin Calderwood has restored stability at Easter Road after a dishevelled first half of the season but his players had no answer to the predatory Hoops front pair of Gary Hooper and the former Hibs forward, Anthony Stokes.
There could have been no clearer signal of what the visitors could expect than Hooper’s first opportunity – a one-on-one chance within all of 26 seconds. Mark Brown was able to throw himself at Hooper’s feet to block but he could do nothing when Stokes was entirely unchecked as he fastened on to Emilio Izaguirre’s prompt from the left and first-timed his finish beyond Brown.
Hibs were cowed by this turn of events and were ragged in possession, always a serious obstacle to progress in the east end of Glasgow but they protested that they were hard done by when Scott Brown went down in a challenge from Martin Scott for a penalty kick which Hooper slashed high past Brown.
Hibs’ complaints might have had substance, to judge by the fact that the penalty conversion, but not the cause, was shown on the in-house first-half highlights package at the interval.
On the principle that the breaks go against you when you’re down and out, Hibs found the game utterly out of their grasp six minutes before the break when Stokes fed Hooper for a rasping first-time shot from 10 yards, an accomplished strike which the player scarcely troubled to acknowledge, never mind celebrate.

In such circumstances, motivation could have been a problem for both teams in the second half and perhaps understandably Celtic – who wore strips with the players’ names in Japanese in support of the striken country and will be auctioned off for charity – took their foot off the gas, although they remained sporadically dangerous.

Hibs, whose only effort of note throughout the whole for the first 45 minutes had been an angled strike from Ricardo Vaz Te that was scrambled around the post by Fraser Forster, were considerably more animated, even after the early departure of Derek Riordan, who was replaced by Akpo Sodje six minutes after the restart.

They got a nominal consolation when Charlie Mulgrew tugged David Wotherspoon’s jersey inside the box for a penalty that was converted coolly by Liam Miller but, in truth, Hibs would have been on the wrong end of a rout had Izaguirre and Kris Commons not pushed shots narrowly wide with the goal gaping.

Even more fortunately for Calderwood’s players was the outcome of the penalty kick awarded when Freddie Ljungberg was down in the box under pressure from Paul Hanlon only for Hooper to slice his attempt wildly wide from the spot.

The outcome, though, was hardly marred for a Celtic side whose goal difference advantage over Rangers is effectively worth another point and who, in Beram Kayal, have a player who produced another controlling performance in what has been an impressive first season at Parkhead.

Celtic 3-1 Hibernian

Celtic returned to the top of the Scottish Premier League with a comfortable win against Hibernian.
Anthony Stokes fired the hosts into a fourth minute lead, then Gary Hooper converted from a penalty after Scott Brown was fouled by Hibs' Martin Scott.
Hooper added his second of the night before the break, then a Liam Miller penalty gave Hibs a lifeline.
Six minutes from time, Hooper sent a penalty wide after Freddie Ljungberg was brought down by Paul Hanlon.

The victory puts Celtic two points ahead of Rangers at the top of the table, with both clubs having played the same number of matches.
Celtic made three changes from the side who lost the Co-operative Insurance Cup final to Rangers with Stokes, Glenn Loovens and James Forrest all starting and Thomas Rogne, Georgios Samaras and Kris Commons all named on the bench.
Hibs made four changes after their draw with Hearts at the weekend, as Michael Hart, David Stephens, David Wotherspoon and Ricardo Vaz Te were all added to the team for the visit to the east end of Glasgow.
Hooper almost snatched the lead for Celtic inside the first minute, but struck straight at a fully-alert Mark Brown in the Hibernian goal.
Two minutes later, Stokes made no mistake when Izaguirre threaded through a neat pass and the Irishman blasted the ball into the back of the net.
Hooper grabbed Celtic's second from the spot after Scott was penalised for a clumsy challenge on Celtic captain Brown in the 20th minute.
A Charlie Mulgrew free-kick almost handed Loovens his second goal of the season when the big Dutchman rose highest and nodded wide.
The onslaught continued when Forrest fired in a right-footed shot from the edge of the Hibernian penalty area that warmed the hands of Brown.
Hibs' first opportunity of the match arrived from a free-kick wide on the right that Miller sent straight into the arms of Celtic keeper Fraser Forster. Moments later, Vaz Te beat the offside trap to test Forster, who could only parry wide for a corner.
The Hibs defence were left standing as half-time approached when Stokes delivered an inch-perfect ball through to Hooper and the Englishman struck with precision past Brown.
On the stroke of half-time, Vaz Te headed a sterling opportunity wide of Forster's left-hand post.
Shortly after the interval, Derek Riordan sprang into action and struck for goal from 18 yards out, Forster deflecting out for a corner – then the former Celtic man was substituted for Akpo Sodje due to injury.
Brown had to look lively in the Hibs goal when Hooper bore down on him chasing a defence-splitting pass, then Izaguirre flashed a shot across the face of goal and inches past the right-hand post.
Wotherspoon went down in the Celtic penalty area after a feeble challenge from Mulgrew in the 67th minute and referee Euan Norris pointed to the spot.
Former Celtic midfielder Miller stepped up and coolly lobbed the ball past Forster to handed Hibs a lifeline.
Stokes fired in a curling free-kick in the 72nd minute, but Hibs keeper Brown saw it coming a mile off and parried wide for a corner.
A searching cross from Wotherspoon 10 minutes from the end could not find a Hibernian team-mate and the brief spell of pressure from the visitors soon fizzled out.
In the final 10 minutes, Ljungberg came off the Celtic bench and earned the hosts another spot-kick after Hanlon needlessly brought the Swede down near the goal-line.
However, Hooper passed up the chance to complete his hat-trick when he stepped up and sent the ball wide of Brown's left-hand post.
