Trivia
- European Cup 2012-13; Round of 16; Second Leg of two
- Aggregate 5-0 (First Leg 0-3)
- Neil Lennon prior to match: "We are playing Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League. We're not renting out a training ground to them.” A dig at Rangers Sevco for lending their training ground to Juventus as well as a rallying cry to the first team.
- Various injuries with Lustig, Brown out and Tony Watt out too.
- Efe Ambrose fined for missing team bus to airport. The media made a hoo haa over it all, but it was a nothing. The Sun splashed it across their back page the next day, a complete blown up nonsense and Lennon tweeted his disgust at The Sun on it.
- Lots of credit for Celtic support from Italian media.
- Man U dumped out last night by Real Madrid. Arsenal practically out also so all UK sides out before even the quarter finals. Embarrassing for the EPL as the final is at Wembley for the English FA's 150th anniversary. Likely two German sides could face off in final, it would would jar with some (haha).
- IFFHS have rated Celtic as 19th in the world (joint with Man U) for results. Chelsea first in the list. You can interpret it as you like.
- Stories that Hearts have informed their staff that administration is soon, they refute this. Looks increasingly likely though.
- Elsewhere Rangers Sevco set to sign a Dublin born Irish player from Dundee Utd. Oldco would spin in its grave, and various hun hordes unhappy.

I should be disappointed, but I'm not. Not really. We've been knocked out, but it was by one of the best teams out there just now. And we didn't disgrace ourselves. Not by a long shot. I always say in these games that as long as the players come off the park having given everything then I'm happy. They did that over both legs. We were the better team for spells in the tie. The 3-0 defeat in the first leg was incredibly harsh. But when it comes down to it Juventus are just a better team all round. Their movement is quicker and smarter; their passing is quicker and smarter; their defence is a well drilled, tried and tested unit; their technique is far better than ours; their finishing more clinical. But above all that they have the experience that we don't. Our problem has never been that we're a young team. It's that we're a team that lacks real experience of the top level.
It's been a great campaign. We came through a group of teams that can outspend us many times over. We won away from home. Came close to pinching an incredible draw in the Nou Camp. We beat the mighty Barcelona – a night that will go down in legend, and be talked about for decades to come. And, against all odds and expectation, we made it through to the last 16. We've got to see true legends of our time playing at Celtic Park. Guys who will be remembered and talked about for a long time. And, for the majority of the time, we've shown that we can raise our game and at least compete at this level on any given day.
So yeh. It's been a great campaign. One I really wasn't expecting. Neil Lennon can take a hell of a lot of credit out of it. He's learned over the last couple of seasons in terms of Europe. And, while I still think there's more learning to be done, he can be proud of what he's achieved. As to can the players. We ***** and moan about them at times. Overreact to their performance, pick up on every little mistake they make. But nearly all of them have contributed to what we've achieved in Europe this season, in one way or another. None of them have hid. Some of them might not be good enough at this level. And they might not be here next season. And they might have been responsible for this or that. But they've all worked hard and did the club proud. They should have earned at least a little respect for that.
These are the nights we should be enjoying – defeat or not. Who knows when they'll come around again.

My only disappointment of the whole campaign is in the aggregate score against Juve – I've no real complaints about them beating us, but 5-0 definitely doesn't tell the whole story of those two games.
I remember back in the summer not even being sure we'd beat Helsinki, then feeling the same about Helsingborgs. I certainly didn't think we'd qualify from the group we were drawn in, but I thought we could get 3rd place. I don't think anyone could argue with the suggestion that we've exceeded all expectations this year, so great credit and thanks must go to Neil Lennon, his staff, the players and everyone else involved
We've shown that we've got a good few players who are more than capable of playing at CL level – nothing like as many such players as Juve have, let alone the number that teams like Barca and Bayern have, but a hell of lot for what we've paid for them. Forster, Wanyama, Wilson (who'd have thought that 12 months ago?), Lustig, Matthews, Brown, Ledley, Hooper and Samaras have all shown that they're good enough to play with the big boys.
We'll see a different Celtic team next year, most likely one with no Wanyama or Hooper in it, and maybe a couple of other names missing too. Those that stay will have learned a hell of a lot from this year, as will the manager. I think I read somewhere that we've got a ridiculous three qualifying rounds to get through to reach the group stage though, so it'll no doubt be another rollercoaster ride. I'm looking forward to it

Neil Lennon lauds Celtic but Juventus class counts in 2-0 win as Italians march on in Champions League
The quality of mercy did not constrain Juventus as they despatched Celtic from the Champions League without any consideration for the Parkhead side’s desire to depart with something to show for abundant pride and effort.

Instead, the Old Lady applied a stiletto in the form of measured strikes by Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella.
While Neil Lennon had cause to be aggrieved about the standard of refereeing in the first leg – when the main damage was done – the Hoops manager witnessed a second defeat that was wholly attributable to a difference in class between the sides.
Juventus might not have the power from middle to front that can be discerned in Real Madrid but they will present an obdurate barrier to whoever is drawn against them in the quarter-finals.
There were notable absentees on either side, including two of the pivotal figures in the first leg. Stephan Lichtsteiner, whose manhandling of Gary Hooper earned him a caution that brought him within another booking of a suspension, was left out, as was Claudio Marchisio, for the same reason.
They were replaced by Simone Padoin and Paul Pogba respectively, although Arturo Vidal – also within one caution of a ban – did start.
Luca Marrone replaced Giorgio Chiellini in defence, while Quagliarella and Matri were paired in attack, with Mirko Vucinic – who had particularly impressed Lennon – was kept in reserve on the bench.
The Celtic manager, meanwhile, chose not to start with Efe Ambrose, whose errors gifted Juve two of their goals in the first meeting.
Also out, having played in the weekend quarter-final victory over St Mirren in the William Hill Scottish Cup, were Thomas Rogne, James Forrest and Anthony Stokes, the latter two of whom joined Ambrose amongst the substitutes.
Charlie Mulgrew, who had missed Celtic’s three previous games because of a muscle problem, was recalled and deployed alongside Joe Ledley in midfield, while Victor Wanyama dropped back from that department to partner Kelvin Wilson in the back four.
Five hundred Celtic fans found themselves locked out of the stadium and complained that the gates in their section of the ground were not unlocked until after the match started.
There were no reports of trouble, but one fan, who was said to have fainted because of the crush, was passed over supporters’ heads until he recovered.
On the field, a swift focus of attention was Celtic’s first corner kick but, in a change of tactic, it was played short, affording no preview of Juve’s likely response to a deep delivery. The use of Georgios Samaras as a target man had been anticipated by Juventus, who kept Andrea Barzagli tight on the striker – who was captain for the occasion – to effect.
With three goals in the bank, of course, the Serie A leaders could afford to allow Celtic to play up to the edge of their box, where space immediately became scarce. Ledley responded by uncorking a drive from 25 yards which curled only just wide of the post, but no sooner had that encouraging development buoyed the travelling fans than Juve administered the sucker punch.
Hooper, dropping into his own half, was ambushed by Barzagli who released Quagliarella through the left channel for a drive that Fraser Forster blocked, but could not hold, with Matri snapping on to the rebound to fire home the opener.
The prospect of a severe aggregate defeat was now on the cards but Celtic came very close to an equaliser on the night when a Kris Commons effort clipped off Hooper and wrong-footed Gianluigi Buffon, but the goalkeeper swung out a glove to turn the shot aside.
In a surprisingly open contest, Commons was then caught in possession and Vidal put in for an unopposed effort, but the Chilean squandered the opening.
Next, Samaras cut in from the left flank for a driven cutback that skidded on the rain soaked surface just beyond Hooper’s straining boot, no more than a yard out.
By the interval Celtic had not looked out of place, yet their position had worsened. The restart saw Wanyama replaced by Ambrose and, soon after, Adam Matthews suffered a hamstring injury and was replaced by Forrest.
Meanwhile, Juve – who had the best player on show in Pogba – pressed further upfield although the open nature of the match remained evident, to the benefit of Andrea Pirlo, who caught Emilio Izaguirre with a dropping cross to the feet of Vidal, who rolled the ball across the goal for Quagliarella to tap home.

Kudos to a great EuroJuve and civilization of the great sports fans Celtic

Seven years after the last time, when he sat on the bench Fabio Capello, Juventus back in the quarter-finals of the League Champios and resumes its rightful place in the nobility of European football.
The company is amazing, if you think about how it had been disintegrated the club in the summer of 2006 by the cyclone Calciopoli affair for which is pending before the TAR of Lazio, the claim for damages to the FIGC for a total of 443 million euro.
Awaiting the decision of the administrative justice which, if upheld the request Juventus in its entirety, disintegrate the organization of Spruce, Andrea Agnelli and Antonio Conte signed the relaunch of the company at the highest level, national and international.
The basis for the elimination of Celtic, with the total aggregate of 5-0, had been thrown in Glasgow. In Turin, the company was crowned thanks to goals from Matri and Quagliarella (who plays little, but has averaged a goal every 94 minutes) and another convincing performance collective that has allowed Buffon to bring to 490 the minutes unbeaten in the Champions League.
Waiting for March 15, the day of the draw for the quarter, the praise all'EuroJuve honoring herself and Italian football, mingle with the tribute to the fantastic Scottish fans. In the Juventus Stadium last night, they have given a real lesson in civility sport, fair play and extraordinary passion to Italian football, often quick to become the most bully of the world. The Chronicles of atrocities perpetrated in Naples on either side, the chants, insults and other crap that dot too many games in Serie A, is light years away from the spectacle of education and sportsmanship that the people of the Celtic Away in Turin has offered us. At punbto to unleash the applause of the Juventus fans and compliments of the same Count after the game.
Although defeated and eliminated from the most important European Cup, Celtic supporters have never stopped creels out loud, to stir up their own team, making chivalrous homage to Juve. Understand where the roots sink the 125-year history of the Scottish team. Because the same accounts 6 million fans in all four corners of the planet. Because it was a worthy rival for the Bianconeri. Why that mesh horizontally striped white and green are the uniform of a club worthy of the applause of the world.

Juventus ended Celtic's Champions League campaign at the last 16 stage by completing a comfortable aggregate win.
Early Celtic promise from Joe Ledley's rising shot was tempered when Alessandro Matri followed up on Fabio Quagliarella's shot to score.
Gary Hooper almost turned in an away goal from Georgios Samaras' centre.
And Efe Ambrose wasted a header for the visitors before Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal combined to set up Quagliarella for a simple finish.
Trailing by three goals from the first leg in Glasgow and without skipper Scott Brown, any faint hopes of a remarkable Celtic comeback ended on 24 minutes when Matri finished off from close-range.
Manager Neil Lennon will be frustrated that his side could not fashion a goal and by defensive lapses on a rain-lashed evening in Turin.
However, on reflection, Celtic can only assess their European campaign positively.
Seeded fourth in their group after two qualification wins against Scandinavian opposition, the runaway Scottish Premier League leaders finished second to Barcelona, whom they famously beat at Celtic Park, at the expense of Benfica and Spartak Moscow.
Without a win in nine previous trips to Italy, the visitors began brightly as both sets of supporters had the impressive relatively new stadium rocking with noise.
A Beram Kayal shot was blocked before Ledley's venomous strike from 22 yards narrowly missed the junction of Juve keeper's Gianluigi Buffon's post and crossbar.
Celtic's hopes were still flickering, but they were soon extinguished.

Hooper was dispossessed on the touchline just inside his own half by Andrea Barzagli, who accelerated forward to play in Quagliarella.
The striker's low, angled shot through the legs of Kelvin Wilson was saved by Fraser Forster but fell into the path of Matri, who applied the finishing touch.
Far from feeling sorry for themselves, Celtic responded well.
Commons' drive was diverted on its way to goal by Hooper, but Buffon managed to change direction and make a sprawling save.
Samaras then flashed an effort across goal which Hooper was inches away from converting before Kayal headed weakly at Buffon.
A 20-yard drive from Juve's Chilean international Vidal worked Forster before the half-time whistle, and Quagliarella forced another smart save from the Celtic keeper early in the second half.
Ambrose, disciplined for his late arrival at training on the morning of the match, replaced the injured Victor Wanyama at the interval and the Nigerian produced a near carbon copy of his first-leg downward header miss from Charlie Mulgrew's corner.
And then the impressive Juventus machine clicked into gear on 65 minutes to settle the match.
Pirlo's perfect chipped ball eluded Emilio Izaguirre and found Vidal, whose chest control and square ball across goal allowed Quagliarella to finish from close in.
In the closing stages, Samaras shot over from the edge of the penalty area and substitute James Forrest saw his effort from distance scooped up by Buffon as Celtic pushed fruitlessly for a goal to reward their considerable efforts over two legs.
Having revelled in the big match atmosphere of this campaign, Celtic will be back for another crack at the tournament next season and, although they will have to negotiate three qualifiers, Lennon's players will take great heart from this adventure.
But Celtic's form will not have gone unnoticed and richer clubs may be circling in the summer, with an eye on some of their star performers.
Celtic may struggle to keep stars, says Neil Lennon
BBC
Celtic manager Neil Lennon admits it will be difficult for him to retain the players who have impressed during the club's run in the Champions League.
Having reached the last 16, the SPL leaders were beaten 2-0 by a classy Juventus in Turin, 5-0 on aggregate.
"There'll be players who want to progress their careers and it's a progression for us too," said Lennon.
"We want to bring in players, develop them and sell them on [for a profit]. So far that strategy's worked for us."
Three key members of Lennon's squad are nearing the end of their contracts.

“We had good chances again tonight and we didn't take them”
Neil Lennon
Striker Gary Hooper and defender Victor Wanyama, whose deals expire in the summer of 2014, have so far rejected offers to extend their stay in Glasgow.
And midfielder Joe Ledley, who will also be a free agent next summer, has yet to open talks on his future.
"We'll have a look at things and see how players are feeling at the end of the season," said Lennon. "We have a championship to win and we're in a cup semi-final."
Trailing 3-0 from the first leg in Glasgow, Celtic started brightly in the heavy rain only for the hosts to book their quarter-final place with goals from Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella.
But Lennon said he was enormously proud of his players for getting this far in the tournament and knows their efforts, including a famous victory over Barcelona, will not have gone unnoticed.
"It would be a travesty for these young players not to progress their careers having achieved so much in this campaign and having played against some of the best players in the world," he explained.
"Some of them want to progress their careers maybe out of Scotland and it is difficult to stop that progression.
"We're doing our job. We're bringing these young players in, we're developing them and hopefully selling them on for significantly more than what we brought them in for."
Reflecting on the end of Celtic's European adventure, Lennon added: "It's disappointing. You always want more.
"The handicap we have is that we're probably £100m behind most of the other squads in the last 16 of Champions League.
"The difference is the quality in the final third. We had good chances again tonight and we didn't take them.
"Quality counts and that was the difference over two games. We were just a little bit short in some areas.
"Juventus are a fantastic team. They have a great work ethic about them. They maybe don't have the flamboyance of Barcelona but they work so hard for each other and have a great balance."
Lennon revealed that Efe Ambrose was disciplined for being late for training on the morning of the match but insists it was not the reason the defender was omitted from the starting line-up.
The Nigeria international missed the team bus from the hotel and had to catch up by taxi.
Ambrose appeared at half-time as Wanyama picked up a hamstring injury, while full-back Adam Matthews also suffered a similar problem.
