Trivia
- UEFA Cup, Europa League Group Stages, Round 2 of games.
- Celtic’s first ever European competition match v a Turkish side.
- Well, well. It all seemed to be going so smoothly. Celtic taking their chances, Fener's stars showing their age, and then it's Efe time, and we then lose another goal from a corner
- Another Efe Ambrose clanger let's take opposition back in. Celtic draw after having been comfortably two nil ahead at one point.
- Molde 1-1 Ajax was the result from the other game, so the current standings look like this – Molde 4pt, Ajax 2pt, Celtic 2pt, Fener 1pt
- Rumbles growing about the manager and coaching staff.
- Tonight is the first time Celtic will face a Turkish side in a competitive match.
- Leigh Griffiths has been fined £2,500 and handed a suspended two match ban by the Scottish FA after he admitted to singing 'offensive and insulting' lyrics regarding ex-Hearts player Rudi Skacel. The incident occurred in March of last year before an Edinburgh derby between Hibs and Hearts.Griffiths was filmed in the Roseburn Bar standing on a chair singing “Rudi Skacel is a ******* refugee”. In a statement issued by Celtic earlier this month, Griffiths apologised for his behaviour.
Review
(hillhouse of KDS)
On the balance of play I think we can count ourselves hard done by.
Fenerbache were the better team at the beginning of the second half, but their purple patch probably came as a result of the howler before half time.
It's unfortunate for Efe ambrose, but he really should have dealt with it better.
James Forrest and Commons both had great games, and Griffiths done well to finish for his goal (the second chance was probably more difficult than the first). Thought Brown had one of his better European showings too.
It's a wonder how we can be so mentally fragile whilst winning…however as soon as it goes equal we look pretty resolute (notwithstanding a dodgy period of 5-10 minutes).
Tierney looked good, hopefully the initiative he demonstrated in the first half isn't coached out of him.
Disappointed- Fenerbache, for all their millions, were there for the taking.
(el salto of KDS)
Disappointing after starting so well
They were rattled at 2-0 and we let them back in it
Could easily have lost, could easily have won, in the end a point isn't a disaster if we do Molde home and away
Note to fans, fecking rap it with huddles during the match, its a fecking jinx, done it against Malmo as well and proceeded to lose a late goal.
Well played Broony for getting the rest of the team tellt in the second half when they looked as if we were losing the plot completely
(sevilliano of KDS)
Seems perfectly clear to me
We don't have a manager or team capable of delivering
Not in CL qualification, not in Europa league and most worryingly perhaps not even in spfl
We are short up front and even if what we have is on form like tonight they can't compensate for our shampoo defence
When we are not on form upfront with our limited resources we have no hope given that defence
We have also pushed matters to ridiculous in defence
Everyone knows whether at CB or RB ambrose has the ability to eff things up – and whether it's as bad as tonight or just giving a free kick away on the right as in Ajax or Aberdeen the results are potentially calamitous as we haven't got a defence that can cope with set pieces
So no matter whether brown commons bitton Forrest griffiths all play at the top of their game whether it's izzy ambrose Blackett boyata or Gordon behind that atrocious defence whatever good work we do is just as likely to be undone
Left back and centre back were always going to be critical this year and departure of Matthews has made right back also perilous given lustig injury record
It should all have been clear to rd and pl what was needed and we've royally effed up – whether we've fatally effed up remains to be seen but with no sign of Jozo and rds comments on his readiness and the fact that our coaches appear incapable of cobbling together a functioning defence this season is going to be frustrating at best

Efe Ambrose error costly as Celtic drop two points
by STEPHEN HALLIDAY
published 00:54 Friday 02 October 2015
RONNY DEILA was left to rue a trademark lapse in concentration by Efe Ambrose as Celtic dropped two Europa League points at home to Fenerbahce.
The Scottish champions were 2-0 up and on course for their first victory in Group A through goals by Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons before a nightmare error by Ambrose let Brazilian striker Fernandao in to pull one back for the Turkish side just before half-time. The Nigerian defender looked culpable again when Fernandao eluded him to head in Fenerbahce’s equaliser three minutes into the second half.
With Molde and Ajax drawing 1-1 in Norway in the other Group A fixture, Celtic remain firmly in contention to qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament.
But Deila recognised an opportunity lost for his team and has urged the much-criticised Ambrose to improve his focus on the big occasion.
“If you see the overall performance, when you are defending you need to keep concentration for 90 minutes,” said Deila.
“That’s the biggest challenge Efe has. He plays very good for 88 minutes but sometimes makes some easy mistakes. The first goal was one of them. As a defender, you have to concentrate for 90 minutes.
“Yes, of course (it is a missed opportunity to win). We played well in the first half and went 2-0 up. It was important to keep that lead into the break, then I thought we would have had a very good chance in the second half
“But we conceded an easy goal and that gave them energy and put us on back foot. They had us for 15 minutes in the second half. They didn’t create a lot but scored from a set play. It’s disappointing they scored with the two chances they had.
“We finished the game quite well without creating a lot. I’m disappointed we didn’t win but happy we got a point and the group is still very open.”
Celtic also let a winning position get away from them when they drew 2-2 away to Ajax in their opening Group A fixture.
“That is always a concern,” said Deila. “But it is better to do that than to go under and stay under. We had very good control of the game in the first half but you can’t coach these individual things.
“We were too deep at the start of the second half. You can see we believe in ourselves. When we dare to play football, we are a good team
“We need to play our system and defend as high up the pitch as possible. We need to keep the ball more. We finished the game well with some good passing and crossing in their half.
“The draw between Molde and Ajax is a very good result for us. The group is very open, it is in our hands and we can do it. There are a lot of possibilities.
“Of course it would have been better if we’d won but we have to take positive things from tonight.
“I just want to see us braver on the ball. That’s going to be the key to our future.”
Commons defends Ambrose
KRIS Commons has accepted that a draw was a fair result at Parkhead last night and although he lamented the ‘cheap’ goals Celtic lost, he refused to point the finger at Efe Ambrose.
Commons said: “Efe knows what happened. He’s bitterly disappointed but it won’t affect his confidence. He’s a confident boy.
“Efe’s mistake led to a goal but he played really well. He won his headers, he came out with the ball and he was good in possession.”

BBC Scotland at Celtic Park Celtic threw away a two goal lead as they earned their second draw in the Europa League against Fenerbahce.
The home side were commanding in the first half and led through Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons strikes.
Efe Ambrose committed the kind of calamity that has dogged him this season as he gifted a goal just before half-time, Fernandao netting.
The visitors took advantage of their lifeline and Brazilian Fernandao equalised just after the break.
Ronny Deila's side move on to two points, having drawn by the same scoreline against Ajax in the opening round of fixtures.
The Dutch side also have two points after drawing 1-1 with group leaders Molde, who beat Fenerbahce two weeks ago.
Bright start for Celtic
Organisation allowed Celtic to impose themselves. The team was so well structured in the opening exchanges that Fenerbahce were denied the space and time to yield their rhythm or poise.
Leigh Griffiths scores for Celtic against Fenerbahce Griffiths scored his 11th goal of the season
Celtic did not constrain their own enterprise, though, and James Forrest looked so lively and full of meaning intent that he himself seemed impossible to quell.
The consequence was the home side being compact without the ball and spirited with it, a combination that diminished Fenerbahce and left the visitors' manager Vitor Pereira torn by anger and disdain on the touchline.
Deila's men were consumed by their own sense of adventure.
Griffiths could not be denied when Mikael Lustig's head-flick from Commons' corner arrived at his feet at the back post. His first effort was brilliantly saved by Fabiano but Griffiths lashed the rebound high into the net.
Celtic Park was alive with promise and three minutes later Nir Bitton spun away from Ozan Tufan in his own half, surged upfield and fed Forrest, whose cross was converted with ruthless expertise by Commons.

Fenerbahce fight back
Good fortune was their only ally and there was a familiar sense of frustration for the home fans as Ambrose's mistake – a weak back header – gifted a chance to substitute Fernandao, who tucked the ball past Craig Gordon.
The goal came only minutes before half-time but its influence was prolonged.
Fernandao celebrates after scoring for Fenebahce against Celtic Fernandao scored a few minutes coming on as a replacement for Volkan Sen
Fenerbahce were still enthused after the break and, three minutes into the second half, Nani slung over a corner that Fernandao headed strongly into the net.
The powerful striker, who had replaced Volkan Sen in the first half, might have scored a third but clumsily over-hit his chip and sent it over.
Craig Gordon had to be alert, even if the visitors were far from goal, since Nani and the excellent Diego both struck efforts on target from long range that the Celtic goalkeeper had to push away, the latter's effort with his leg.
The pressure was sustained, but also limited, and Celtic grew back into contention, not least with Brown returning to prominence again.
Forrest curled an effort on target and Commons spun and shot with improbable agility and technique but Fabiano stopped both shots.
Man of the match
Scott Brown played a captain's role in Celtic's performance, driving the team forward in many of their best attacking moments.
