CELTIC made it two wins in a row on their pre-season tour, with a 2-1 victory over Wiener SC in Vienna, with Vakoun Issouf Bayo scoring his first goal for the Hoops, while Leigh Griffiths scored for the second consecutive game.
A number of players were getting their first game-time of pre-season, having sat out the 6-1 victory over SC Pinkafeld on Wednesday night, and Neil Lennon again played a different line-up in the first and second half.
Celtic started the match brightly and Mikey Johnston, fresh from an impressive two-goal display in the opening friendly match, was the first to drive towards goal, and when he was tackled on the edge of the area, Nir Bitton’s follow-up effort was saved by the Wiener SC goalkeeper.

Marian Shved, making his first appearance in the Hoops, tried his luck from outside the area after 17 minutes but couldn’t keep his shot down, and five minutes later Celtic came close to opening the scoring.
James Forrest, wearing the captain’s armband for the opening 45 minutes, cut on to his left foot and unleashed a powerful shot which rattled the crossbar. And just after half-hour mark, Forrest should have scored when he was picked out at the far post from a cross, but his header from four yards out went it.
He then turned provider, setting up Callum McGregor following good combination play with Shved, but McGregor’s effort was blocked on the line. And on 38 minutes Forrest saw another shot hit the woodwork, this time his effort hitting the post.
The last effort of the first-half was another Johnston shot from the edge of the area which just went narrowly wide of the right-hand post.
A much-changed Celtic team emerged for the second-half, with only Scott Bain retaining his place in the side, though he was later replaced by Conor Hazard after an hour.
It was Celtic’s two strikers who combined to nearly break the deadlock five minutes into the second half. Leigh Griffiths’ corner found Bayo in space, but his header went wide.
Just two minutes later, Wiener SC took an unexpected lead when Jakov Josic’s free-kick ended up in the back of the net. That lead lasted all of three minutes, however, before Griffiths equalised for the Hoops. The Celtic No.9 closed down the Wiener SC goalkeeper, blocking his attempted clearance and then slotting the ball home with his right foot.
Bayo came close again, and probably should have hit the back of the net from another Griffiths corner, but his header went wide. The Ivorian striker then set up Ewan Henderson inside the area, but his shot from eight yards out was saved by the home keeper.
Bayo was not to be denied his first Celtic goal. however, and with four minutes remaining, he produced a superb finish to put the Hoops 2-1 ahead. Jonny Hayes fired in a cross from the left and Bayo hit it on the half-volley, steering the ball into the back of the net.
Neil Lennon's side will now play their third and final friendly of this pre-season tour on Tuesday night (July 2) when they take on FC St Gallen in Switzerland, ahead of their opening UEFA Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo the following week.
