Trivia
- Back after the international break.
- Celtic go back to the top of the league after Sevco drop points the next day (1-1 v Hearts). Both on same points & Goal Difference, but Celtic ahead via head-to-head.
- ANDREAS AGNELLI, the Juventus chairman and president of the European Clubs Association, is planning to push ahead with proposals to revamp the elite competitions – a change which could act as a major boost for Celtic.
- Celtic have bemoaned the schedule times for two fixtures. The Parkhead side have labelled the 5.30pm Betfred Cup semi-final against Hibs and 12pm kick-off at Ross County as "hugely inconvenient".
- Dave King, chairman of Sevco, has been given the most severe sanction available to the Takeover Panel: cold shouldering for 4 yrs – means UK financial firms are barred from acting for him in any other company takeovers. In 50 years, this has happened in only 4 cases. " "An offence of the utmost gravity in which Mr King persisted until he was constrained by court order to comply…. Mr King's behaviour shows a clear propensity to disregard" company law…the impression of someone determined to avoid performing his obligations under the Takeover Code unless compelled to do so…"
- Rangers: BBC "New evidence has emerged suggesting Rangers FC covered up the reasons why a former youth coach accused of child sex offences left the club."
- Arsenal want Celtic's Karamoko Dembele. Unai Emery is keen to add the 16-year-old but faces competition from such as Juventus, PSG and Borussia Dortmund.
- Unhelpful rumours spreading about Leigh Griffiths (will be left away from here). They should be parked. All decent people wish him the best.
- Celtic have been charged by Uefa for fans setting off fireworks just over two weeks after being fined for the use of flares and throwing objects. No surprise
- Iranian women have attended a World Cup qualifier in Tehran after being freely allowed to enter a stadium for a men's match for the first time in decades. Women have effectively been banned from stadiums when men are playing since just after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
- 'No ban on pies at Scottish football matches' despite health chief's recommendation.
- Athletics: Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge made history this weekend by running a marathon in less than two hours. Women's record also broken after 16 years.
- Internationals: Scotland hammerred 4-0 by Russia, but win 6-0 v San Marino
- Rugby WC in Japan:
- Scotland lose to Japan and get KO'ed in the group stages. Lots of drama over the match due to a powerful typhoon in the region over the weekend, and sadly some lost their lives in the natural disaster (RIP). Ireland get hammered v NZ in the KO stages, and Japan get beaten by SAF in the KO stages but have stolen the hearts of all who watched, including having 60m in Japan watching their games!
- Celtic confirm the appointment of Nick Hammond as Head of Football Operations, taking over from Lee Congerton who was much criticised.

(lubo25 of KDS)
that was just magical today – could easily have been 5 at half-time
the 10 minutes immediately after half-time are among the maddest I've ever seen in terms of goals and chances
kudos to the guy behind me who mistook Bayo for Frimpong when the former was thru on goal and the keeper saved: "Aw the wee man really deserved a goal the day." Just the 6 inches in height of a difference

Celtic 6, Ross County 0: Hoops thrash Staggies to return to league summit

https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/celtic-6-ross-county-0-hoops-thrash-staggies-to-return-to-league-summit-1-5029366Celtic regained their place at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership with a sizzling 6-0 rout of Ross County at Parkhead
As a result of their loss at Livingston and draw away to Hibs in their two games prior to the international break, they faced a new scenario. Never before during their run of eight straight titles had they entered a league weekend knowing that an adverse series of results would leave them five points adrift of league leaders Rangers.
Yet, inspiration rather than inhibition seemed to flow from their need to reclaim top spot in the table – at least until the Ibrox men play Hearts this lunchtime – leading Neil Lennon’s side to produce an electric, eviscerating performance that wasn’t fully reflected in them only slam six goals past visitors Ross County.
It left their manager not just purring but making some serious proclamations about a slaughter in which two-goal contributors Mohamed Elyounoussi and Odsonne Edouard, and 18-uear-old right back Jeremie Frimpong – in his first league start – were scintillating.
The spread of the goals might suggest that the earlier period in the second half, when Celtic netted four times across a nine-minute spell, were pivotal. Yet, the reality of this outrageously one-side, non-contest against a Dingwall club on a four-game unbeaten run is that the Scottish champions could genuinely have scored four goals every nine minute such was their relentless procession towards the visitors’ goal.
It left Lennon, who watched his side score six times, have Ross Laidlaw pull off half a dozen saves, and two other opportunities be denied by goalline clearances, issuing a great claim over what he had just watched. It was nice to be back on top, he said, and that his side could “enjoy” their night. And, moreover, look forward to more to enjoy despite Steven Gerrard’s men appearing set to provide them the stiffest of title challenges this season.
“It’s going to to and fro for a while but if we play like that for the majority of games it’ll take a lot to stop us. We won’t get carried away and we’ve got a good game up next [at home to Lazio in Thursday’s Europa League encounter],” he said, also providing an eyebrow-raising assessment of the victory.
“I thought it was probably the most complete display in my second spell and maybe amongst the best in my time here over the two spells. I thought we were brilliant first half and very unfortunate not to have more goals. Ross Laidlaw had a great game. I know him from Hibs. We played some spectacular football – it was exhilarating, there was athleticism, an appetite and an intensity to win.
“We threw down the challenge [when it was 1-0] at half-time – we can be a nice team and play good football and give the other team oxygen to stay in the game, or be ruthless They answered in spades. We have a good team and there’s more to come from them. That was a marvellous team performance all-round. I don’t know how they picked man of match because there were so many outstanding performances.”
On-loan Southampton winger Elyounoussi began the rout after only four minutes following a brilliant one-touch interchange that began when Frimpong passed to Edouard.
He deftly flicked into the path of McGregor, who played in the Norwegian international. He cut inside, knocked the ball past Marcus Fraser as if he was tissue paper and, with the break of the ball off the defender, curled the ball into the far corner of the net.
Celtic were therafter rampant – a glorious sweeping move the full length of the pitch that ended with McGregor smacking the post when the goal was at his mercy the particular highlight – but astonishingly had not put County away by the break.
They put that to right in short order following the interval. A Keith Watson slip when attempting to head away a cross, let Edouard, fresh from five goals in two games for the French under-21s, breeze in and steer the ball beyond Laidlaw.
In an instant, Edouard played in McGregor to make it 3-0.
Four minutes later, the fourth arrived when Frimpong flipped over a cross that elicited a diving header from Edouard goalbound by the time Liam Fontaine tried to hook it out and only succeeded in helping it on its way. The devastating spell continued when Frimpong provided the cut-back for James Forrest to smack in five minutes later.
In truth, County then got off lightly as Celtic added only one further goal.
That arrived in the 72nd minute, when a Vakoun Bayo cross from the right was hammered toward goal by Boli Bolingoli, and diverted out of Laidlaw’s reach by Elyounoussi.

Odsonne Edouard scored twice in Celtic's thumping win
Celtic scored four goals in nine second-half minutes as they thrashed Ross County and returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Neil Lennon's side had slipped from the summit after losing at Livingston last time out, but a blistering performance edged them back ahead of Rangers.
Mohamed Elyounoussi scored after four minutes, but a second proved elusive despite 21 first-half shots. However, Odsonne Edouard (2), Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Elyounoussi's second sealed the win after the break.
Rangers will return to the top should they beat Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.
County, meanwhile, slip to sixth place but remain within four points of Motherwell in third place.
Reaction & how it happened
Celtic return top in stunning fashion
Having picked up just a point from their previous two league matches, Celtic showed from the off a determination to return to the top of the Premiership with an emphatic victory.
They should have wrapped the game up by half-time, battering the visitors' goal, with Elyounoussi sidefooting an early warning into the arms of Ross Laidlaw.
It was the beginning of a busy afternoon for the County goalkeeper, who found himself picking the ball out of the net only a minute later as the Norwegian winger curled one beyond him at the end of an incisive move involving Jeremie Frimpong and Edouard.
Celtic were swarming all over their bewildered opponents, with Edouard and Elyounoussi looking particularly dangerous.
The Frenchman alone hit the target on four occasions in the opening 35 minutes, but a combination of good goalkeeping – one very good save in fact – and a Richard Foster goal-line clearance kept him from troubling the scoresheet.
Add to that a Christopher Jullien header off the line by Foster again and McGregor hitting a post at the end of another sumptuous move and County looked punch drunk. But incredibly they were still in the contest come the interval.
Edouard stats
That scenario would not last long. A matter of seconds in fact. Keith Watson made a dreadful mess of an attempted clearance and Edouard was not about to let County off lightly again, slotting the ball past the exposed Laidlaw.
And that was the cue for County's collapse. Within nine minutes they were five goals down as Edouard slipped in McGregor to score, the Frenchman headed in off the desperate lunge of Liam Fontaine and Forrest slammed Frimpong's cutback into the net.
At last Celtic eased their foot off the throat of their beleaguered opponents, but the respite was not to last as Elyounoussi nudged his second over the line after Boli Bolingoli had fired across goal.
Celtic return to the top of the table in stunning fashion.
Man of the match – Odsonne Edouard
Neil Lennon told BBC Scotland pre-match he would not welcome any January bids for his French frontman and little wonder. On this form he is unplayable and with a little luck could have had at least double his tally of two goals in the hour or so he was on the park.
But allied to his goalscoring prowess, his touch, power and pace make him the complete package.
'Pure talent on the pitch' – reaction
Watch: Lennon hails 'most complete Celtic performance' since return
Celtic manager Neil Lennon: "That's the most complete performance we've had since I returned here and close to the most complete I've had as Celtic manager.
"The team was outstanding and there was pure talent out on the pitch. I enjoyed it immensely."
Ross County co-manager Stuart Kettlewell: "The message at half-time was reasonably positive. The greatest disappointment for us was how we conceded the second goal and the reaction after it.
"We don't feel we dealt with the situation, the atmosphere and the quality Celtic have got."
