Summary
Aaron Mooy: “It’s an amazing feeling to get your first goal for the club.”
ElSalto: Shaky first five or ten minutes then we took control, after that it was never in doubt.
Four going on eight, and we were relentless.
At least Hibs had a go, but they soon realised they were up against it. Starfelt, Mooy and Maeda were superb, the only player I’d have concerns about at the moment is O’Riley, who looks short on confidence.
Great win.
Torquemeda of KDS: I didn’t think I’d be lucky enough to see another Celtic team achieve Rodgers-like levels of dominance over the rest but this team are close to achieving it. Some of our football is superb and our work rate astonishing. I don’t ever remember squad depth like we have now. Everyone we bring on fits in seamlessly. That was a joy tonight.
Chris Sutton @chris_sutton73 · Aaron Mooy with a couple of goals tonight and his all round performance was really excellent. Good competition for places in that central midfield area. Maeda a real handful off the left. A performance of real authority tonight at a tricky venu
Everything Celtic @aboutceltic · 3h What a minute of football for Daizen Maeda Misses one he has no right to miss. Scores one he has no right to score. Superb strike.

‘I don’t like that word’ – Ange Postecoglou dismisses Celtic momentum talk ahead of Rangers clash
Ange Postecoglou insists Celtic do not have any pyschological edge over Rangers ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby despite producing one of their best displays of the season in the 4-0 mauling of Hibs at Easter Road.

Celtic weathered an early Hibs storm – and a disallowed Chris Cadden goal – before taking complete control with a double from Aaron Mooy, including one from the penalty spot, in addition to strikes from Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi completing the rout.
The victory ensures Celtic will head to Ibrox with a nine point lead over second-placed Rangers, who made it four wins from four under Michael Beale with a 3-0 win over Motherwell.
But Postecoglou stressed that the sizeable gap does not present his team with any advantage in the mind games ahead of the second Old Firm derby of the season.
“I don’t think so. We’ve been a fair way in front for a while now and if we were thinking about it that way you might have seen complacency creep in,” the Celtic boss said as he hailed an “outstanding effort” from his players in Leith.
“It’s just not relevant to where we are, or the mindset of this team. Every game is an opportunity for us to go out and play our football and win and give some joy to our supporters.
“Whether you are nine points ahead or nine points behind, what does it matter? The next game is a massive game, a showcase game. It’s a big game for our supporters, for our club and for the league.
“We want to be a part of that. We’re going to Ibrox, a tough place to go. Who cares what the points tally is? What a game to be looking forward to.

“We’ll try and put on another strong performance and give our fans some joy.”
Postecoglou also shut down any suggestions that his Celtic side have momentum on their side.
“I don’t like that word momentum because it suggests we’re just rolling up and doing stuff,” he stressed.
“The boys are working awfully hard. We worked hard during the break. I think we’ve come back stronger than we finished. We’ve had four games and I think in all four we’ve got stronger in each game.
“From our perspective it’s all about the main target and the main aim which is to keep pushing how good we can be on a daily basis, pushing the guys and making sure they are well prepared for what’s ahead. And they are buying into that.
“There is no sense of them getting comfortable at any stage. They are consistently pushing themselves and each other to be the best they can be.”
Celtic welcomed Josip Juranovic back into their squad for the win over Hibs following his World Cup exploits with Croatia. Reports have linked Chelsea with a move for the right-back but Posteocglou insisted that there has been no contact.
“I can say I’ve heard nothing. Nothing’s happened,” he said. “As I said a week or so ago, the speculation is what it is.
“What I know is we are in a really good space as a club. Going into January we have already strengthened and hopefully we’ll strengthen further.
“I’m in no doubt by the end of January we’ll have a stronger squad than we did going into it.”
Celtic send Rangers warning with dominant Hibs showing as Aaron Mooy opens account

Sometimes it seems as if Celtic might never lose again. They rounded off 2022 in style with a dominant win after withstanding a strong opening from Hibs.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have lost just once this calendar year in the league. Of course, their next assignment will potentially be their greatest domestic test – the short trip to Ibrox to face a galvanised Rangers team. But there was little here to suggest that it’s only a matter of time until Celtic suffer a stumble, as some have been predicting.
The visitors were superb at a ground where many thought they might come to grief. Celtic had dropped points in eight of their previous ten visits to Easter Road. It did seem possible that their run of successive league wins might come to an end here when Hibs started with a burst of energy that suggested they had been feasting on Haribo treats since Christmas Day. It was, though, short lived.
A well-worked goal from Chris Cadden was chopped off for offside after just two minutes. Hibs also hit the post through Paul Hanlon, though that was after two goals in eight minutes had dampened the home fans’ festive ardour.
Aaron Mooy struck his first goal for the club and Daizen Maeda proved he is not letting up after his World Cup exploits with a stunning strike from 20 yards that arrowed into David Marshall’s far corner ten minutes before half-time.
Hibs might point to a header from Kevin Nisbet that skiffed off his head and wide after Joe Newell’s excellent cross. It was the kind of chance the striker usually gobbles up. Moments later Celtic were three up.
It’s something of a surprise that Mooy has taken so long to open his account for Celtic. Although there was a delay as Lewis Stevenson’s handball 11 minutes after the interval was double checked with a possible offside also under review, Mooy did not have to wait too long to score his second for the club. The midfielder struck the penalty with a confidence that suggested there is no looking back for him now he is off the mark. A fine finish from Kyogo Furuhashi after 64 minutes following Reo Hatete’s through ball ornamented a 12th successive league victory for Celtic.
The visitors’ thoughts were drifting towards Ibrox long before the end. Postecoglou had the luxury of making five changes in the second-half.

Hibs had hoped to build on a gratifying victory over Livingston at the weekend. Ryan Porteous started in midfield once more although this tactical quirk won’t be able to survive for a fourth successive match, against Hearts at Tynecastle on Monday. Not because Porteous was exceptionally poor – indeed, one searching ball to Chris Cadden in the first half had echoes of Andrea Pirlo. It’s just that he’s suspended after being booked against Rangers a fortnight ago.
Hibs head to Gorgie with their derby rivals perhaps smelling blood. This is the Easter Road side’s eighth defeat in ten league games and while few home supporters might have expected much here, there was something dispiriting about the margin of defeat and the realisation that it could have been greater.
Only a fine one-handed save from David Marshall prevented Matt O’Riley stroking in a fifth.

Celtic will go into next week’s “showcase” Glasgow derby on a run of 12 straight Scottish Premiership wins after thumping Hibernian at Easter Road.
Aaron Mooy drilled in his first Celtic goals either side of Daizen Maeda’s wonderful strike, before Kyogo Furuhashi capped a thoroughly dominant performance.
Ange Postecoglou’s side remain nine points clear of rivals Rangers, who they visit on Monday in a potentially pivotal second derby of the season.
“We know it’s a significant game,” he told BBC Scotland. “A significant game for our supporters and our league.
“It’s a showcase game. They are second and we’re first. There’s all of those elements, but I can assure you we put in the same preparation for every game and we’ll be ready for it.
“It’s always tough but these are the games you want to be involved in and we’re going in with some decent form.”

All the latest Celtic news
After a couple of narrow wins on their return from the World Cup break, Postecoglou calmly laid down the gauntlet to his players after the win against Livinston, citing his frustration at their play in the final third.
But after putting four past St Johnstone at the weekend, they upped their levels again at Easter Road after a fast opening 10 minutes from Hibs.
Mooy arrowed a low shot past David Marshall after Maeda’s cross was deflected into his path, and the Japanese winger missed an easy header before immediately responding with a stunning strike from 20 yards.
That summed up Celtic’s relentlessness, and Greg Taylor’s wonderful defence-splitting pass set Maeda free again just before the hour, and when Abada connected with his cross the ball flew off the hand of Hibs’ Lewis Stevenson.
Mooy calmly rolled in the penalty for his second goal, and eight minutes later Reo Hatate – playing out of position at right-back – picked out Kyogo with a defence-splitting pass.
The league’s top scorer stayed calm to take the ball inside Rocky Bushiri before finding the bottom corner for his 14th goal of the season.
Hibs started quickly and had Chris Cadden’s second-minute goal ruled out for offside, as well as Paul Hanlon’s effort off a post at 2-0, but they could not sustain any challenge as Celtic overwhelmed them for the second time this season.
Player of the match – Daizen Maeda
Celtic’s Daizen Maeda and Greg Taylor celebrate as they make it 2-0 during a cinch Premiership match between Hibernian and Celtic at Easter Road
Maeda caused Hibs problems down the left flank, setting up the first goal before scoring a fantastic second. His work rate was outstanding as usual, too.
Relentless Celtic lay down gauntlet – analysis
Celtic’s slow start to the season’s resumption – by their own standards – offered a sense of hope for the rest of the league. But the last two performances show it was actually concerning that no side could catch them out when not at their best.
They were utterly relentless at Easter Road after weathering a strong start from Hibs, with Maeda the catalyst for the glut of chances to follow as he set up the first goal before blasting in a second.
But arguably what was most impressive was their work-rate off the ball. The players have clearly responded to their manager’s rallying cry, as their counter-pressing made life impossible for Hibs, who ended up desperately trying to stem wave after wave of attack.
Even at Ibrox, Celtic in this form will be favourites to win Monday’s Old Firm derby. If they do, a 12-point lead will surely signal the title is staying in the east end of Glasgow.
As for Hibs, Lee Johnson asked for a stronger mentality from his side than they showed in the 6-1 defeat at Celtic Park. He certainly got it as they came out strongly, but ultimately succumbed to their visitors’ quality.
Most teams in the top flight just don’t have the quality on the ball needed to get through Celtic’s press, and it proved the case once again.
Johnson still has many doubters to win over, but it would be harsh to be over-critical of this performance. What Hibs really need is a convincing display, and good result, at Tynecastle on Monday.
Anything less, and their current run of form will loom large once more.
What they said
Hibernian manager Lee Johnson: “We really took the game to Celtic in the first 15 minutes. The second 15 minutes, they owned, bossed it on the ball. That’s my criticism. Could we have applied more pressure?
“Against a side of that quality, we’re just not there yet. I’d like us to have been switched on more for a couple of the goals but we had chances and counter-attacked well.”
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou: “We had a feeling Hibs would come at us and the first 10 minutes was a real game. We just stayed really strong and eventually we wore them down.
“I think one part of this team that is underestimated is fitness. I think we’re the fittest team in the competition. The players work hard every day and we want to bring that to every game.”
