Summary
Brendan “Reo is an outstanding player. He brings us a dynamic in the team that no one else can”.
El Salto of KDS:
First half was St Johnstone mark II
Much better second half though
Thought Maeda was great, Lagerbielke second half the same
Kyogo’s goal was beautiful, and nice finish from MOR as well
AJ very, very unlucky with two off the woodwork
Feyenoord won’t be going for damage limitation against us, so they’ll leave space and give up chances. lets just make sure we take them.
mic6703 of KDS:
Still not creating enough chances and still conceding too many soft ones. Their forward dribbling around Scales and McGregor like they were traffic cones was a particular lowlight.
Lagerbielke looked a bit better but he’s def a bit slow. Scales and Turnbull performed as expected.
Maeda should have got MOTM and enjoying O’Riley this season. Edit to say his goal was excellent too. As was the second.
Palma looked every inch a fella not long off a long haul flight and playing with a new team. Glimpses of promise from Yang if he can improve the final ball.
E-Tims @ETimsNet · 1h FT #Celtic 3 Dundee 0 Huffed & puffed 1st half but found it tough to break down Dundee. Joe with a great save. 2nd half all Celtic. Quicker tempo. Some of the fitba great to watch. 2nd goal a work of beauty CalMac & Kyogo. Reo takes us up a notch. Debuts for three player. Brendan said plan was to ease Reo back in after injury with 30 mins. Bigger picture is Reo has been unsettled with bids in from Saudi and France. Prob massive money. Club refused offers. Windae now “slammed shut”. Hopefully, we are about to see the best of him as some player. 2 hours later and Im still laughing at Greg Taylor telling the Referee to do his fucking job at the Penalty he tried to call outside the box. Another cracker today… Brendan fuming at BallGirl for failing to give Alastair Johnston a ball in 0.35 seconds
Inside The SPFL @AgentScotland · 3h Much the same as most Celtic performances so far this season.
FT: Celtic 3-0 Dundee Night & day performance from the 1st half, penalty settled any nerves & after Hatate came on Celtic were a different animal, faster, more imagination and far more entertaining, great goals from Kyogo & O’Riley, Lagerbielke played well, Scales was excellent.
Everything Celtic @aboutceltic · 1h 🇯🇵 | 𝙆𝙮𝙤𝙜𝙤 – 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi is currently averaging a goal contribution every 69 minutes for the club this season. Absolutely phenomenal returns
Highland__Paddy @Highland__paddy · 33m As soon as Hatate came on the park , all seemed well in the world He has a knack of finding space, slowing the game down, and finding a team mate. A terrific football player.

Celtic fans right to be praised: Brendan Rodgers shows his gratitude, debatable penalty, what would life be like without Kyogo

Three goals in a devastating 15-minute spell near the start of the second half secured what Celtic required. It also quenched the home fans’ thirst for the flair they regard as a birthright in these parts.

The triumphant Celtic team applaud their fans after the 3-0 win over Dundee.
It had been a little too one-paced for the home fans’ liking before this belated burst of dynamism. Still, they kept their feelings to themselves for the most part.
Kyogo Furuhashi helped save the day, as he so often does. He disappeared down the tunnel after 17 minutes with his left arm hanging limply by his side. An innocuous incident had aggravated this old vulnerability, which might conceivably be the player’s sole weakness. He can strike a sweet half-volley, as he demonstrated against Rangers two weeks ago. And as exhibited here, he can head the ball like Alan Gilzean as well as turn goal-provider. But that shoulder problem of his must keep Celtic fans awake at night. He is integral to their success.
For some brief moments on Saturday it looked like Kyogo might be facing a long spell on the sidelines, which felt potentially ruinous for Celtic as well as Brendan Rodgers. Mercifully for those whose fate hinges on his welfare, the striker’s shoulder clicked back into its socket and Celtic clicked into gear – eventually. Rodgers joined his players for a lap of honour at the end. All’s well that ends well.
Kyogo Furuhashi celebrates making it 2-0 – he earlier needed his shoulder popped back into place.

The manager made a point of praising the supporters afterwards. He is a seasoned Old Firm campaigner. He knows how quickly fans can turn, and he saw it from the opposite dugout at Ibrox two weekends ago after Celtic’s 1-0 win. That made life very difficult for manager Michael Beale. Several of the Rangers players were waved away when they sought to acknowledge their own fans afterwards.
Rodgers gave what he described as a “shout out” to the Celtic supporters, explaining that they had stayed with the team despite a sticky first half against Tony Docherty’s well organised – and young – team. Dundee’s front six had an average age of just 22. Their midfield three consisted of two 20-year-olds and a 19-year-old. It’s unlikely many Celtic fans were aware of this. Had they been, it’s possible they may not have been so forgiving of their side’s struggles in the opening half.
Rodgers was appreciative of the fans’ patience as Celtic sized up their opponents, who were making their first visit to Parkhead since the first game of Mark McGhee’s short spell in charge two seasons ago. “They did really well for us,” said Rodgers. “I think they could see what we were trying to do in the first half and we were unlucky not to be in front. But at 0-0 at half-time it could have been a little bit edgy. But they stayed with the team.”
It did seem notable that Parkhead had not erupted in boos when referee Grant Irvine blew his whistle for half-time. There might have been less restraint had Kyogo not been willing to go through the pain barrier for his team. With him still on the park, anything’s possible. Rodgers was tight-lipped about what had gone on in the dressing-room. The shoulder was popped in, is that right, he was asked: “Yes.”

Celtic Park is certainly not for the squeamish these days. Indeed, the atmosphere might have turned ugly had the hosts not benefitted from a debatable penalty decision shortly after half time. David Turnbull was facing away from goal when he was bundled to the ground by Ryan Howley, the 19-year-old midfielder making his full debut for Dundee on loan from Coventry City. The referee initially awarded a foul before upgrading the decision to a penalty on the advice of the VAR team. According to them, the offence had occurred inside the box. Turnbull duly despatched the kick down the centre of Trevor Carson’s goal.
That was a significant moment but perhaps a decisive one came six minutes later when Dundee failed to capitalise on a glorious chance to equalise following a quick break upfield. Fin Robertson might have hit a shot but elected to nudge the ball back to Luke McCowan, a perhaps more reliable scorer. His dinked effort drifted just wide. McCowan had already seen an effort blocked by Joe Hart from point blank range at the end of the first half. Few teams profit from Celtic Park when missing these kinds of opportunities and so it proved.
Celtic duly ran over the top of Dundee and had the game won by the 65th minute. That it was all over was not just signalled by the third goal, from Matt O’Riley, but also by the fact Kyogo was almost immediately replaced by Hyeongyu Oh to huge acclaim. With Dundee now down out and out a midweek date with Feyenoord in the Champions League was now occupying Rodgers’ mind.
Celtic had needed a second goal and it came via the head of Kyogo, amid more controversy. Dundee striker Zach Robinson had stayed down on the turf after a challenge but Celtic played on, with Callum McGregor taking advantage of the uncertainty over whether the referee might stop play or not. He flung a deep cross into the box and Kyogo moved expertly into position to beat the offside trap and flick a header beyond Carson.
Aerial prowess isn’t necessarily the first qualify that comes to mind in relation to the little striker, but there won’t have been a better header scored in the land yesterday. And it’s not the first time he has demonstrated this ability. He also assists goals more often than he’s given credit for. He fastened onto a lovely Alistair Johnston ball round the back of the Dundee defence before cutting back for O’Riley to sweep home his third goal of the season.
O’Riley also hit the post in the first half and Celtic were denied by the woodwork twice more after half time. It sounds like an onslaught although it never felt like that. Rodgers was correct to praise the home fans’ forbearance.

Celtic’s David Turnbull celebrates scoring his penalty
Celtic’s David Turnbull celebrates scoring his penalty
David Turnbull won and converted a penalty to send Celtic on their way to a 3-0 victory over Dundee.
Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart made the best save of a goalless first half, but the cinch Premiership champions were three ahead by the midway point of the second.
Turnbull beat former Motherwell team-mate Trevor Carson from the spot in the 51st minute after getting a foul from Grant Irvine as he held off a challenge from Ryan Howley on the edge of the box.
The referee initially awarded a free-kick, but VAR official Steven Kirkland upgraded the award to a penalty and Turnbull converted down the middle.
Kyogo Furuhashi doubled the lead in the 63rd minute, despite heading down the tunnel during the first half for treatment to a recurring shoulder injury. The Japanese striker made an untracked run to meet Callum McGregor’s cross and head home from 12 yards.
Furuhashi turned provider four minutes later as he ran on to Alistair Johnston’s pass to cut the ball back for Matt O’Riley to side-foot home.
It was a good debut for Nat Phillips
Celtic handed debuts to Nat Phillips, Luis Palma and Paulo Bernardo, while Reo Hatate made a comeback from injury off the bench.
Brendan Rodgers was able to give each of his goalscorers an early finish, with Tuesday’s Champions League opener against Feyenoord in Rotterdam in mind.
Phillips started ahead of Gustaf Lagerbielke as Celtic struggled to create space to get in behind Dundee for much of the first half.
Daizen Maeda had a shot stopped after an intricate one-two with Greg Taylor and later saw a goal ruled out for offside after running on to Liam Scales’ lofted pass.
O’Riley saw a deflected effort hit a post, while Yang Hyun-jun looked lively on the right wing after coming in for Liel Abada, who suffered a thigh injury on international duty which is set to rule him out for several months.
The South Korean winger hit a shot wide of the near post, but otherwise Carson was not overly busy before the break.
Dundee had the best chance of the first half when Owen Beck got to the byline and cut the ball back for Luke McCowan, but Hart spread himself to make an excellent point-blank stop.
Lagerbielke replaced Phillips at the interval and Celtic quickly created their best chance so far as Turnbull set up Furuhashi, who blazed well over the bar.
The opener soon came from nothing and Dundee missed a chance to get back in the game when McCowan shot just wide from 18 yards following a counter-attack.
Kyogo Furuhashi helped wrap up Celtic’s win
Dundee switched off when Furuhashi scored as Zach Robinson lay in pain near the touchline and the Dundee midfielder soon went off injured.
Johnston hit the bar following Maeda’s backheel before the right-back’s forward pass sparked the move that led to the third goal.
Amadou Bakayoko missed a good chance for a consolation after being set up by McCowan, while Johnston hit a post from close range late on.
Elsewhere the pressure eased on Michael Beale as Rangers hollowed out a 2-0 win over St Johnstone.
The Gers boss was under intense scrutiny following defeats to Celtic and PSV Eindhoven before the international break.
Brazilian striker Danilo headed the Light Blues ahead after 16 minutes at McDiarmid Park but had to be substituted after sustaining a head knock in its execution.
Substitute Rabbi Matondo added a second in the 79th minute but it was another unconvincing Gers performance against a side who are still looking for their first league win this season.
St Mirren beat Motherwell 1-0 at Fir Park to continue their unbeaten start and move into second.
Scott Tanser volleyed home the only goal of the game 10 minutes after half-time and despite creating a number of good opportunities, the home side failed to find a leveller.
Kilmarnock mounted a dramatic second-half fight back to claim a 2-2 draw and ensure newly-appointed Hibernian manager Nick Montgomery was made to wait for his first league win.
After a dominant start to the game, Will Dennis’ unlucky own goal handed Hibs the lead after eight minutes before Dylan Vente’s smart finish just before the hour-mark doubled the visitors’ advantage and seemingly had Kilmarnock at their mercy.
However, Kyle Vassell halved the deficit two minutes later with a close-range finish before Joe Wright headed home Danny Armstrong’s cross to salvage a dramatic point.
Steven Naismith kicked off his reign as the official permanent head coach of Hearts with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aberdeen.
Goals either side of the break from Yutaro Oda and Liam Boyce gave Hearts the spoils and left the Dons joint bottom with St Johnstone.
Bruce Anderson scored the equaliser as Livingston secured a 1-1 draw at Ross County.
Simon Murray continued his prolific form in front of goal to put the Staggies in front in the 60th minute, only for Anderson to level for the visitors 12 minutes later.
Celtic talisman Kyogo Furuhashi left pitch to have shoulder popped back into place as Brendan Rodgers quizzed over fitness for Feyenoord

Kyogo Furuhashi was on target as Celtic overcame Dundee 3-0 at Parkhead.
Kyogo Furuhashi was on target as Celtic overcame Dundee 3-0 at Parkhead.
When the Japanese striker walked off with his left arm hanging limply by his side the hosts were struggling to break the visitors down. It was only the 17th minute but the sense of relief when Kyogo returned a couple of minutes later was palpable. As well as finding the key to unlock Dundee, there was also the little matter of Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Feyenoord occupying minds.
“It was just his shoulder, he just needed to get some work off the pitch and quickly the medical team sorted it out,” said Rodgers, “He came back in and was fine.” Asked if the shoulder needed to be popped back in, he answered: “Yes”. He was equally economical with his reply when a reporter wondered if the player was a doubt for midweek. “No,” said the Celtic manager.
Kyogo was eventually replaced after 66 minutes by Hyeongyu Oh, by which time he had scored with a well-timed header and set up another for Matt O’Riley. David Turnbull opened the scoring five minutes after half-time from the spot after he was adjudged to have been fouled just inside the penalty area by Ryan Howley, who was making his full debut for Dundee. Referee Grant Irvine originally awarded a foul outside the box but was instructed by the VAR team to change his decision.
Celtic were a different, more incisive side in the second half. On-loan Liverpool centre half Nat Phillips was replaced at half-time of his debut after picking up a knock towards the end of the first half. “He was going to play 60 minutes but it was just precautionary and he should be fine,” said Rodgers.
The manager hailed Reo Hatate, who came on to huge cheers in the second half. The Japanese midfielder has reportedly opened talks about a new contract. “It’s brilliant as he’s like a new player to be honest as he’s missed a lot of playing time after being injured against Aberdeen,” said Rodgers. “He’s the type of player we don’t have in terms of that dynamism in his game. When he’s really focused and on it, he’s really very good. We wanted to give him half an hour just to feed himself back into the game. It was great to have him on the pitch as he’s a top-level player.”

Kyogo Furuhashi scores for Celtic
Kyogo Furuhashi scored Celtic’s second after an injury scare
Celtic moved two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after eventually overwhelming stubborn visitors Dundee.
David Turnbull made the vital breakthrough from the penalty spot after the Scotland midfielder went down on the edge of the penalty box.
Kyogo Furuhashi headed the second and set up Matt O’Riley for a neat finish as the visitors were left to rue a golden opportunity to open the scoring during a goalless first half.
Celtic had goalkeeper Joe Hart to thank for a point-blank save that denied Luke McCowan during 45 minutes Brendan Rodgers’ side otherwise dominated.

Keep up to date with Dundee
Celtic, though, could have been ahead by that time.
Trevor Carson did not know much about it as the goalkeeper beat away Daizen Maeda’s prodded volley with his chest, O’Riley fired off the face of a post and Maeda was thwarted by an offside flag after finding the far corner.
Then came Dundee’s big moment when Owen Beck cut the ball to unmarked midfielder McCowan and striker Luke Robinson made a mess of his chance on the rebound off Hart.
The visitors’ resistance was finally broken when Ryan Howley, in the 19-year-old midfielder’s first start on loan from Coventry City, challenged Turnbull on the edge of the penalty box and a VAR check ruled it had been inside.
With the shackles off, Celtic suddenly found the fluency that had been lacking as clinical finishes from Kyogo and O’Riley secured the three points.
Dundee will, though, wonder how they failed to secure a consolation goal as on-loan Forest Green Rovers striker Amadou Bakayoko skied McCowan’s cut-back over the crossbar from eight yards.
Player of the match – Daizen Maeda
Celtic’s Daizen Maeda fires past Dundee’s Trevor Carson
Japan forward Daizen Maeda was Celtic’s most potent force as the rest of his side misfired in the first half and had a goal disallowed.
Celtic quality shows in the end – analysis
Home manager Rodgers will be pleased that his side managed to build on their Old Firm victory last time out.
After a goalless first half, it looked like Dundee might repeat St Johnstone’s feat in Celtic’s last home game by escaping with a draw.
However, once Turnbull broke the deadlock, Rodgers’ side visibly relaxed and will go into Tuesday’s Champions League opener against Feyenoord feeling good about themselves.
There was a concern when Kyogo went off with what looked like a recurrence of a shoulder injury in the first half, but the striker returned to rediscover his threat with a goal and assist.
Japan team-mate Reo Hatate also returned off the bench and the midfielder immediately showed his class as Celtic suddenly looked a more potent force.
On-loan Liverpool centre-half Nat Phillips only lasted 45 minutes of his debut, but Rodgers reported it was only as a precaution after a first-half ankle knock.
Dundee manager Tony Docherty said before kick off that he had learned from previous Premiership sides who had recently frustrated Celtic in Glasgow.
A couple of changes to his starting line-up confirmed a more conservative approach and, bar McCowan’s first-half chance, the visitors never looked like recording their first first win over Celtic in 40 meetings since a 2-0 success in May 2001.
What they said
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: “I thought we played well in the first half without scoring, but give credit to Dundee, they worked very hard defensively and sometimes you have to tire out the opposition and then I thought in the second half we found more spaces and looked good and threatening and took our goals well.
“There was a much greater fluency and things were connecting much better. It is a game of patience and the players did that very well.”
Dundee manager Tony Docherty: “There are a lot of aspects I was pleased with the performance. In the first half, we executed the game plan really well and probably had the best opportunity of the first half.
“I am really disappointed with the penalty decision. I thought it was really soft. I’ve looked back at it a few times myself and I think it was a really harsh decision against us and that first goal is a really important one.”
