He’s tagged as the new next big thing all are after.
Summary
“It felt more like when I was here the first time,” said Rodgers. “That ruthless mentality of the team, simplicity of the game and the football we played. And that’s why we are here, to entertain the supporters.”
Brendan Rodgers
Tubbytubthumper of KDS: Much more like it. Fantastic first half.understandable that we fell away a bit second half.
Nice to see you Kelly scoring on his league debut.
Thought our big players really showed up. CCV, McGregor, O’Riley. AJ was superb and dare I say Taylor was excellent too.
Have we finally found a winger in Yang?
Excellent, on the pitch and dugout this evening.
E-Tims @ETimsNet · 8m Just in from game. Wizny expecting that! Cannot ever recollect us being 6-0 up at HT at home before. 1st half was brilliant & continuation of 2nd half intensity at Fir Park. Having key players back makes massive diff & seems to have thrown shackles off our mid & attack Ball zipped about at pace with every player looking to get on the ball and move it quickly. Noticeable difference is how quickly CCV moves it on & his link up play with AJ and mid ahead of him. The play moves up several gears. It was a joy to watch #Celtic 7 different goalscorers also showed the numbers we were getting forward at every opportunity including our left back coming in at the back post from open play via a cross from our right back to score a volley. Icing on the cake was Daniel Kelly with a brilliant finish
Special mention for Tomoki Iwata who I thought was flawless. I’m struggling to think of one miss-placed pass from him. He was always available for a pass & it was always short & accurate. He covered so much ground to close down space to win possession back. Brilliant gam

Celtic make major dent in Rangers’ goal difference advantage with Dundee demolition
Six first half goals scored as Brendan Rodgers’ side look back to their best

Celtic delivered a menacing statement of intent to blow poor – in every sense of the word – Dundee away, scoring six goals in a storming opening half performance.
It doesn’t mean they mark leap day having changed places with Rangers at the top but it certainly helped address the goal difference gap between them and their rivals as the run-in picks up intensity.
It was seven-one going on ten – at least. The hosts hit the bar twice. Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson also pulled off at least two fine goal-saving stops.
The away team had Finlay Robertson sent off with 12 minutes left but they had something to cheer shortly afterwards, substitute Michael Mellon acrobatically finishing with a shot hit into the ground past Joe Hart.
It made it 1-1 in the second half. Small crumbs and all that. More significantly, it meant Celtic did not quite manage to completely wipe out Rangers’ superior goal difference. But that’s a minor frustration.
The champions were pitiless in their dismantling of a side who had limited hope in any case given their wretched record against Celtic. And that was before their bus broke down on London Road. The Celtic team coach was sent to pick up the stranded opposition players as the rain lashed down in the east end of Glasgow.
The night went from bad to worse for the visitors. Talk about a night to dispel the negativity detected at times during Celtic’s late win over Motherwell on Sunday.
No one was booing manager Brendan Rodgers’ substitutes on this occasion. With most people aware of the half-time score at Rugby Park, the home players were roared off at half time. A larger number had scored – six – than those who hadn’t.
The first three goals, all scored within the opening 24 minutes, were unopposed headers: Cameron Carter-Vickers, Adam Idah and Matt O’Riley.
And then things really began to do downhill for the beleaguered visitors. Daizen Maeda turned Joe Shaughnessy inside out for the fourth and Greg Taylor hit in number five at the back post from Alistair Johnston’s cross. History appeared in the making on at least two counts.
It genuinely felt as if we might witness Celtic emulating or even bettering their biggest-ever victory, which came against the same team in 1895. Dundee’s biggest defeat? That same afternoon, though at least then technology was not in place to mock them.
A very decent Curtis Main strike after the striker outmuscled Carter-Vickers just before half time made it 5-1. Dundee might well have reasoned that this was at least a marker before the interval, something to cling on to. They were not reckoning on VAR. Goal chopped off for offside.
Celtic scored a sixth in the sliver of time that remained before referee Matthew MacDermid finally brought an end to one of the longest halves in the Dens Park club’s history. It was the pick of the lot, McGregor finishing off a move after a multi-pass move that left the 10 Dundee outfield players – yes, they still had the full complement at this point – looking like a team of training cones. The skipper played a one-two with Taylor in the box before curling home.
With the game won, Rodgers withdrew McGregor at half time. Sadly for Dundee he unsportingly sent on a replacement. Daniel Kelly, 18, arrived for his league debut. Just 18 minutes later he had his first goal, curling in from around 16 yards after Hyunjun Yang’s cutback. Dundee lost a player but gained a goal in the time left. Robertson was red carded for a second bookable offence following a late challenge on Johnston.
Brendan Rodgers reflects on ‘really nice’ half-time moment as Celtic boss reminded of first spell in charge

Brendan Rodgers hailed the evident reconnection between the fans and his team as Celtic swept Dundee away at Celtic Park.
The manager said the atmosphere reminded him of his first spell at the club as the champions fired seven goals past the visitors, with the first six coming in a slick first-half performance.
It certainly eased the pressure on Rodgers, heavily criticised this week for perceived casual sexism during an interview with BBC Scotland sports reporter Jane Lewis after Sunday’s 3-1 win over Motherwell. Even before this incident a substitution by the manager was booed by the away fans.
Everyone put their shoulder to the wheel against Dundee, including seven different goalscorers. Substitute Daniel Kelly, 18, came on and scored his side’s final goal after 63 minutes. The home fans roared their approval and gave the excellent Hyunjun Yang a loud ovation when he went off. The wide player gave on-loan Liverpool left back Owen Beck a torrid time.
“It’s really nice because the young wing back for Dundee played him really well in the first game,” said Rodgers. “He couldn’t get past him earlier on in the season (when Celtic won 3-0 in September). So this was a really good match up to see how he’d developed.
“I thought he was outstanding, going inside and outside. He was clever and bright and had that simplicity in his game as well at the right time whilst working very hard for the team. Man of the match could have been a number of players, but it’s nice for him.”
Dundee, who had Finlay Robertson sent off with 12 minutes left, scored a consolation goal through substitute Michael Mellon after 84 minutes. The game had long since been beyond them. With Rangers trailing at Rugby Park, the home players received a huge ovation as they left the field at half time.
“It felt more like when I was here the first time,” said Rodgers. “That ruthless mentality of the team, simplicity of the game and the football we played. And that’s why we are here, to entertain the supporters.
“There was a really nice moment at half time when they were coming in. The fans could see then how the level of performance had jumped up. We had everything we wanted from the game – the runs, the movement, the ambition.
“And credit to the players too because I said to them at half time if you come in at the end with the same scoreline you’ll be disappointed. I told them, ‘If you don’t push physically then you’ll come back in with the same scoreline’. But they created more opportunities in the second half and I was so, so pleased for the players.”
Rodgers praised Kelly, who made his mark on his league debut with a goal scored with his less favoured right foot. “He’s a young player that I’ve loved working with since I came back,” he said. “He came with us on pre-season to Portugal and he has this incredible attitude. You can see physically how developed he is – his power, his speed, his touch.
“He is only going to get better and part of the idea and strategy here is to allow these young players to come in and develop.”
Dundee manager Tony Docherty admitted his team were overwhelmed. “We need to take ownership and responsibility for that,” he said. “I am disappointed in our performances against the Old Firm this season – particularly that one tonight – but those won’t define our season.
“What will define our season is the teams round about us and we’ve a game on Saturday against Kilmarnock at Dens Park and it’s really important as a group.”

Carter-Vickers goal
Cameron Carter-Vickers sent Celtic on their way to victory with a towering header
A stunning first-half display helped Celtic thrash Dundee, but they remain two points behind Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Brendan Rodgers’ side looked to be returning to the summit after a devastating opening period in which Cameron Carter-Vickers, Adam Idah, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, Greg Taylor and Callum McGregor all netted.
Celtic eased off somewhat after the break, but 18-year-old substitute Daniel Kelly scored his first senior goal to add further gloss to the scoreline before Michael Mellon scored a late consolation for the visitors after they had Finlay Robertson sent off.
Celtic were on course to reclaim top spot when Kilmarnock led Rangers at the interval, but the Ibrox side came from behind to win 2-1 at Rugby Park, keeping Rodgers’ side second, while Dundee remain sixth.

The latest at Dundee
Celtic’s first-half display against Motherwell on Sunday was well below the levels Rodgers would expect, but they raced out of the blocks here in devastating fashion.
Carter-Vickers has been a big miss through injury at times this season, and made his mark on his return to the side, climbing highest to head home O’Riley’s free-kick and open the floodgates.
Idah glanced Alistair Johnston’s cross past goalkeeper Trevor Carson to double the lead and O’Riley was then afforded acres of space to cushion a header into the bottom corner and make it three.
Maeda got in on the action, bending a delightful left-footed shot into the far corner after cutting inside as Dundee capitulated at the back.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Taylor ghosted into the box to make it five, and when Curtis Main had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside, you thought it could not get much worse for Dundee.
It did though, as McGregor stroked home a left-footed shot to make it six before the break – the biggest half-time lead in the Scottish top flight for at least 20 years.
The huge lead allowed Rodgers to makes multiple changes, and there was a memorable moment for one of those replacements as 18-year-old Kelly curled a first-time effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Robertson was dismissed for a second bookable offence and while Dundee did get on the scoresheet through Mellon, this was an evening to forget for Tony Docherty’s side, whose cushion in the top six is now a single point.
