Torquemada of KDS: Good away performance and result against a team that looked and played like a WWE selection. In terrible conditions, that was a good day at the office. All three midfielders were good as, I thought, was Holm when he came in. Not often that Scales is steadier than CCV but he was today. And Brendan really putting it up to those bean counters on the board post-match. What’s not to like. BTW, the Sunday match thread on the swamp is another good laugh. I can’t believe I ignored it for the past few years. It’s better than Kevin Bridges lol!
jbj712 of KDS: Excellent professional performance in horrible conditions.
Usual appalling standard of refereeing and Stevie Wonder on VAR if Taylor gets a yellow surely Rooney must see red for retaliation? Two fairly blatant penalties for fouls on Maeda just brushed aside.
Now if the muppets in suits are anywhere near as good at their jobs as the manager and players we will get in some decent quality in three or four positions but not holding my breath.
Well done to the coaching staff and players and support for keeping things going today.
Let’s bury these bandits next week!
“The young players who have showed patience with Celtic and put their trust into the club in their development, those are the guys who have come through here and done really well. It is a real challenge to become part of a Champions League squad at 18. That doesn’t mean you can’t be ready at Celtic, but there’s definitely a lack of patience between 18 and 21, which means that some players decide to move on – and that is something that’s out of Celtic’s control.”
Brendan Rodgers on youth development
“With the number of teams in it, it becomes quite cut throat – you’re either in the top six or you’re not. If you are in the bottom six, you are fighting for your life at the end of the season. If you are in the top six, people want to be in there to avoid that stress. That can be a difficult environment to put young players into. There’s no doubt the league format could help.”
Rodgers thinks that a 12-team Premiership is “fundamentally too small”.

Total control from the first to last minute. Team playing so well at present. Scoreline flattered Saints as could/should have been at least a five goal win.

Reo Hatate well deserving of the Man of the Match today, everything Celtic did positively came from the magic in his boots, but I thought Liam Scales was also outstanding today, always an incredibly physical battle against St Mirren and he stood up to it well & won every battle. Olusanya always puts in a tremendous shift anytime I’ve watched him, tireless.

Champions Celtic brush aside St Mirren to continue impressive start to season
Story by Ronnie Esplin, PA
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/champions-celtic-brush-aside-st-mirren-to-continue-impressive-start-to-season/ar-AA1poKj9
Celtic’s impressive start to the season continued apace with a comprehensive 3-0 William Hill Premiership win over St Mirren in Paisley.
Skipper Callum McGregor fired the visitors ahead inside three minutes and fellow midfielder Reo Hatate added a second in the 33rd minute as Celtic ignored the inclement weather to take control.
Hoops defender Alistair Johnston swept in a third in the 71st minute to complete a convincing victory for the champions who have indicated their intentions early.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have won all four games this season – scoring 12 and conceding just one – and should go into next Sunday’s Old Firm game against Rangers at Parkhead with supreme confidence.
There was no doubting the effort put in by Stephen Robinson’s men but they were well short and have now lost four games in a row.
Saints were knocked out of the Premier Sports Cup last week by Dundee United so Robinson took action, with Killian Phillips making his debut after joining on loan from Crystal Palace.
Jonah Ayunga, Jaden Brown, captain Mark O’Hara and Richard Taylor also started with Roland Idowu, Mikael Mandron, Oisin Smyth, Scott Tanser and Fraser Taylor dropping to the bench.
On a wet and windy day in Paisley, striker Adam Idah and midfielder Paulo Bernardo came in to the Celtic side with Rodgers confirming missing Matt O’Riley is on his way to Brighton, while Nicolas Kuhn had to settle for a place among the substitutes.
There were less than three minutes played when McGregor picked up a pass from James Forrest outside the box and lasered a shot low past Buddies keeper Ellery Balcombe for his second goal of the season, equalling last season’s tally.
In the 14th minute Balcombe made saves from Hatate and then Idah following a fine move from the Parkhead side.
Balcombe used his foot to block the next effort from Idah after he had been sent clear by Bernardo.
There was a VAR check for a Celtic penalty on the half-hour mark when Daizen Maeda went down in the box following a challenge by the already-booked Alex Gogic, but play continued.
Celtic soon doubled their lead though, Johnston’s lofted cross to the back post being headed back by Maeda for Hatate to drill a shot low in off the far post.
There was another VAR check when Maeda when down in the area following a tackle by Shaun Rooney, but again no penalty was awarded.
Robinson brought on Mandron and Idowu for Gogic and Ayunga at the start of the second half but Celtic retained the upper hand and continued to threaten.
Kyogo Furuhashi and Kuhn replaced Idah and Forrest just before the hour mark and eight minutes later Balcombe thwarted Furuhashi after the Japan striker raced on to Johnston’s defence-splitting pass.
But it simply delayed what looked like the inevitable.
Moments later, Kuhn drifted into the St Mirren box from the right and set up Johnston to knock the ball high into the net from 10 yards to make it 3-0.
There was also time for 18-year-old Francis Turley to make a late debut for Hatate as Celtic, who showed they remain a potent force even without the services of influential Denmark midfielder O’Riley.
Purring Celtic must hope another key man isn’t bought after stunning display – but new signing fluffs Rangers lines

St Mirren 0-3 Celtic: Usual show from champions despite disruption of O’Riley move
No Matt O’Riley, no problem. Celtic continue to cut through Scottish opponents like a hot knife through butter, maintaining their flawless start to the season with an 3-0 win over St Mirren.
Paisley has been a tricky venue for Celtic in the past and on a dreich summer Sunday without one of their best players, this could have been an awkward assignment for Brendan Rodgers’ men. O’Riley’s transfer to Brighton – he is on the south coast to conclude his £25 million-plus deal – had the potential to destabilise Celtic, but from the get-go at the SMiSA Stadium, the defending Premiership champions were streets ahead of St Mirren.
Celtic have scored within four minutes in their past two matches to set up convincing wins against Hibs. Here, it took them just two minutes and 26 seconds to bag the lead when skipper Callum McGregor lashed home from 25 yards. From that moment on Celtic were in complete control. Reo Hatate added a second on 33 minutes and Alistair Johnston netted in the second half. This was far from arduous in the winter-like wind and rain.
Rodgers’ team have shown recently a ruthless knack of paralysing their opponents early, flooring them with an early goal and then manipulating the ball effortlessly. O’Riley was replaced in the team by Paulo Bernardo and the Portuguese, in his first start of the season, kept the pot boiling. Not withstanding their goals though, McGregor and Hatate shone like beacons. The Japanese looks back to his very best after calf issues last term and Celtic will hope their resolve is not tested by any predators in the final week of the transfer window. In this form, Hatate could easily grace a more competitive league.
Celtic’s opener was a well-trodden move for them. Alistair Johnston and James Forrest dovetailed down the right, the ball was shuttled inside to McGregor and his fierce effort from 25 yards skidded past Ellery Balcombe. Scotland manager Steve Clarke, watching on from the stands, was given another reminder of what the national team will be shorn of due to McGregor’s recent decision to focus purely on club football. The 31-year-old looked sprightly.
Hatate’s strike just after the half-hour mark ended any slim hopes St Mirren had of mounting a comeback. They had not tested the redundant Celtic keeper Kasper Schmeichel in any way before Johnston’s cross to the back post was headed down by Daizen Maeda to Hatate, who guided the ball into the net via the left-hand post.
St Mirren tried valiantly to be remotely competitive but Celtic always appeared booked for a third goal. It came on 71 minutes, replacement Nicolas Kuhn feeding Johnston to sweep home from close range. The rest of the match mimicked a training session, with Rodgers even handing a competitive debut to 18-year-old Northern Irish midfielder Francis Turley in the final few minutes.
If there was one underwhelming performance, it was that of Adam Idah. The £9.5m signing from Norwich started ahead of Kyogo Furuhashi up front but looked rusty, fluffing his lines with a big chance when sent clear by Hatate in the first half. He made way for the Japanese on the hour mark and did not enhance his case for starting next weekend’s biggie against Rangers.
Win that, and Celtic will go into the international break five points clear of their Old Firm rivals. Players come and go down Parkhead way but most things remain the same.

Celtic began life without Matt O’Riley with a comfortable Scottish Premiership win away to St Mirren.
The Denmark international midfielder was left out of Brendan Rodgers’ squad for the trip to Paisley as he closes in on a move to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
It did not affect the league champions though, as captain Callum McGregor fired them into the lead inside three minutes.
Reo Hatate lashed in a second to put Celtic in command, before Alistair Johnston made it three in the second half following good work from Nicolas Kuhn.
The result was never in doubt and the margin of victory could have been greater were it not for a string of saves by St Mirren keeper Ellery Balcombe.
Celtic are top of the table after three wins from three, while St Mirren sit seventh on three points.

Hatate steps up as Celtic continue perfect start
The big news before kick-off in Paisley was the confirmation that O’Riley’s Celtic departure is imminent, with the midfielder undergoing a medical with Brighton.
Paulo Bernardo took over from the Denmark international and, while the former Benfica man will be expected to replace some of O’Riley’s goals, it was the two established midfield stars who led the way for the visitors.
McGregor lashed a low left-footed drive into the bottom corner in just the third minute, using the slick surface to his advantage, and Celtic never looked back.
Hatate added a second with a lovely first-time finish from Daizen Maeda’s knockdown and it could have been more in a magnificent first half.
Rodgers’ side pressed St Mirren into submission, forcing errors in dangerous areas and popping the ball about with confidence on the slick Paisley surface.
The Celtic dominance continued after the break, and their third goal was fully deserved.
Kuhn – who was sharp once again off the bench – drove into the St Mirren box and teed up Johnston, who fired high beyond Balcombe’s despairing dive.
There will be tougher tests to come, but the midfield performance will have been particularly heartening for Rodgers.
Hatate, in particular, shone, picking up dangerous positions with his clever movement and creating five chances in addition to his goal. If he can stay fit, he has the ability to step up in O’Riley’s absence.
Next up for Celtic? Rangers at home in the first Old Firm match of the season next Sunday.
Battling Buddies blown away
Stephen Robinson would have been hugely disappointed to see his side concede so early.
They sat deep in numbers, looking to frustrate Celtic and pounce on the break when they did turnover possession.
The issue was whenever they did win the ball back, they were swarmed by a relentless Celtic press and St Mirren’s front two of Toyosi Olusanya and Jonah Ayunga were left isolated, as evidenced by just the solitary shot the hosts had in the first half.
Ayunga was replaced by Mikael Mandron at half-time, while Roland Idowu came on for Alex Gogic, and for a period Robinson’s side posed more of a threat.
Olusanya looked to be bearing down on goal but was denied by an excellent sliding tackle by Johnston, and Jaden Brown then forced Kasper Schmeichel into his only save of the afternoon.
St Mirren’s season will not be defined by their results against Celtic though, and Robinson will be heartened by aspects of his team’s defensive display.
There were several last-ditch tackles and blocks that kept the scoring down, and in Balcombe they appear to have a quality shot-stopper. The battling qualities that have characterised Robinson’s time in charge kept Celtic to just three.
They face Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday looking for a first win in six in all competitions.
What they said
Media caption,
‘Celtic did the simple things better than us’ – Robinson
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson: “Credit to Celtic. It was a horrible day in Paisley and they did the simple things much better than us.
“They started with a very good goal and that gives us an uphill battle straight away. We got what we deserved. We weren’t the best version of ourselves, and if you’re not, you don’t beat Celtic.
“We’ve had a tough run, a tough set of games and we need to reset ourselves.
“I don’t think we made a game of it today. We didn’t really have any opportunities. We need to get our injured players fit again; once we do that, we’ve got a good squad.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: “In terms of performance and result, in difficult conditions, the players were good right from the off.
“A player of Matt O’Riley’s quality will always be missed, but we never leave the burden to one player. Everyone contributes. Matt has moved on – fantastic for him and there’s opportunity now for other players to come in.
“We’ll bring players in, hopefully. What I do know is that by next Friday we will have improved the squad.”
