Trivia
- Davie Hay's first game against Rangers as Celtic manager.
- Paul and Willie McStay create a record as brothers who play in same side against Rangers.
Review
McCoist's goal after 30 seconds rocked Celtic but they fought back well. Aitken equalised after a ball had been knocked down to him.
McStay was exceptional and in the second half only McCloy's saves kept Rangers in the game.
McCoist missed a sitter from six yards after a fine run and pass by Mitchell and Celtic punished them with four minutes left when McCloy couldn't hold Provan's effort and McGarvey poked the ball in for the winner.
This was an important game for Celtic to win as there was pressure on Davie Hay to get a win in his first game against Rangers.
