- Notts Forest based themselves at Troon.
- Brian Clough famously took his players into David Hay's Paisley pub for a drink on the afternoon of the game.

Review
Celtic's hopes turned in 33 minutes when the Swiss referr refused a certain penalty when Hart fouled McStay in the area.
Celtic badly missed the injured Provan and their play lacked width. Burns struck the bar and Van Breukelen saved well from Reid.
However Forest were dangerous on the break and scored two fine goals after they had stretched the Celtic defence. Brian Clough's tactics had worked superbly on the night.
