If it wasnt for two miraculous saves from Joe Hart we would have lost.

Not clinical in the first half, and giving up the goal we had a crisis of confidence for about 15 minutes. We seem to be missing something in midfield. Seemed like we didnt have anyone to grab the midfield by the scruff of the neck…That’s another transfer window gone by and we haven’t picked up a proper CDM. McGregor is wasted in that position.

I thought Palma was ok in the first half, he had his chance….but faded and was on the pitch far too long in the second half. Introducing Vata should have come 10 minutes sooner. Kuhn has skill and ability, and should work his way into a starting position over Abada. It’ll take a good few training sessions, before we work out how to take better advantage of Idah height.

The most alarming thing is we look very disjointed. There’s no flow to our teams passing and we havent really figured out how to get better balls to the CF (Kyogo, and anybody else playing there). May need to look to change the system, because right now its toiling to get goals.

We’re now in a position where we need to win 13 of the remaining 14 games and probably draw the 14th to win the title. It’s pretty unlikely to say the least! No structure, no flair/excitement and no heart in that team today, especially in the second half.
I’m not sure Rodgers can turn this around but I am also unsure anyone could at this stage. Some of the players look to be either lacking confidence or have chucked it and a decent number just aren’t good enough!

Recruitment is part of it – we’ve only 1 good centre back and he’s been injured most of the season. Our full backs aren’t good enough either – we knew this about left back but AJ has been really poor this season and I can’t believe folk still argue he’s an upgrade on JJ. JJ played consistently well for 18 months whereas AJ had a good back end of last season and has been poor since. Our midfield is weak physically and defensively (it’s far too easy for teams to get it to their striker as there’s always a massive gap between the central midfielders and centre backs) and lacks levels of creativity that make the downside of having no DM worth the risk. Only MOR has played consistently well this season (though been below par the past two games) while Hatate hasn’t really shone when asked to be a bit more risk averse (and has been injured for most of the season anyway). CalMac has been a shadow of himself and needs dropping/rested for a bit. Bernardo’s purple patch seems to have ended as quickly and surprisingly as it started. There’s not much else by way of midfield options. Up front we’re struggling – our wingers arent creating many chances. We are missing Maeda who, while technically poor, is a nuisance through his work rate, power and pace. Palma, Abada and Forrest typically end up cutting inside and laying the ball back which starts the slow build up again. Yang holds the ball too long. Our good striker is starved of service. His poor goal scoring return shouldn’t be a huge shock – the bulk of Kyogo’s goals last year were basically tap ins in the 6 yard box (his movement for some of them was exceptional, I get that) and he’s (goals against Them aside) not often going to create chances for himself. With the wingers we have playing as poorly as they are, he’s never going to score loads.

But recruitment is only part of it. We don’t have the players to effectively play the way Rodgers wants to and clearly aren’t going to bring them in so he needs to look at what he had and work out how to get the best out of them. Injuries, the Asian cup and the fact that some of our players are shampoo means we’ve limited options so just need to look at the core 14 players and make something work with them. The players need to step up to and put a bit more effort in. Our work rate is poor and our determination is close to non-existent.

Even if it means we end up playing a more “agricultural” game for the rest of the year, we need to grind it out and hope to win the title and reset and rebuild in the summer. It’s more likely we’ll be rebuilding having lost the title and will be doing a rebuild with the proceeds of the MOR sale. Which realistically when you look at the current squad is the last big sale we’ll see for a while as none of the others are likely to fetch a big price. We’re at risk of being in a spiral which will see the rainy day fund disappear quickly!

A first-ever point at Pittodrie against a Brendan Rodgers-led Celtic team stopped the rot at Aberdeen – if rot is not too strong a word to describe a few unhappy weeks.

It certainly stopped the booing – from the Aberdeen fans, at least. “Sack the board, sack the board!” was chorused from the away section. A banner was quickly produced after the final whistle as well: “Celtic Board – On Your Heads Be It”.

As for manager-less Aberdeen, although the 1-1 outcome was the same as against Dundee on Tuesday, this was far more acceptable fare from the hosts after a first half when they were fortunate to finish with zero. In the end they were slightly unfortunate not to take all three points.

It looked like being a long afternoon ahead for Aberdeen when Luis Palma tapped into an empty net after seven minutes. A long VAR check eventually confirmed the Celtic forward had strayed marginally offside.

It was an early test for the technology after a communication problem had held up kick off following an emotional minute’s applause for former Aberdeen skipper Ally Shewan, the original ‘Iron Man of Pittodrie’, who died aged 83 a few days ago.

A difficult week, then, for Aberdeen. How they needed this. Shewan would have been proud of the way his old team took the game to Celtic after a tame first-half performance. “Just relax” they were urged by caretaker manager Peter Leven at half-time. He failed to heed his own advice. Asked at the end if he had enjoyed the first experience of being his own man in the dugout, he replied: “At the final whistle, aye!”

Leven was already notable for being the first Aberdeen manager, caretaker or otherwise, to be born after Gothenburg ’83 – September of that year in his case.

The 40-year-old coach has made a swift impact as Aberdeen continue sifting through the candidates to replace Barry Robson. Leven says he has no idea whether he will still be in charge at Ibrox on Tuesday for the second part of an Old Firm challenge that could have come at a better time.

Perhaps Aberdeen have nothing much left to lose. The shackles came off in the second half. They struck just four minutes after half time after springing into action following the breakdown of a Celtic attack. Dante Polvara released Miovski, who still had a considerable amount to do as he bore down on Maik Nawrocki, who had been booked in the first half for a bodycheck. Rodgers was angry that Miovski was able to shuffle the ball onto his favoured left foot.

The striker then curled a delicious shot beyond Joe Hart for his 19th goal of the season. It means he has bettered last season’s tally of 18 already. It was not what Rodgers needed at any level, since, of course, Miovski is one striker Celtic fans will feel the club should have been in for during the transfer window.

Even Rodgers made a reference to Miovski’s prowess afterwards when reasoning that the home team will always have some “moments” in the game, especially when they have such a “good striker”.

Celtic have Kyogo Furuhashi of course, although he was an intermittent figure here, but they lack a No.9 like Miovski. Whether Adam Idah, a deadline day loan signing from Norwich City, fits the bill remains to be seen. The Irishman was involved in the equaliser, scored by fellow substitute Nicolas Kuhn shortly after Rodgers had resolved to change things via a triple substitution.

Surprisingly, Nawrocki wasn’t one of those taken off. He was enduring a tough time and escaped what seemed a cast-iron second yellow for a late challenge on Miovski.

The Pole looked spooked by the Aberdeen centre forward as the hosts suddenly began expressing themselves. Killian Phillips saw an audacious attempt from 40 yards drop narrowly past. It had developed into an exciting contest between two sides with very different problems.

This was a meeting of the malcontents and while a quick look at the league table might tell you why in the case of Aberdeen, it would be harder to explain to a visitor from Mars the exact nature of the Celtic fans’ gripe.

One might start by pointing them towards the visitors’ bench, which, while containing plenty of youth – and what is the point of a bench if it doesn’t contain a healthy contingent of up-and-coming talent? – also looked slightly lightweight.

James Forrest, who’s at the other end of the scale in terms of his career, returned to the squad for the first time in a month, although most of the attention was on a new pair of faces beside him – new signings Kuhn and Idah.

Both look like decent acquisitions – the former in particular – but through no fault of their own, they are presented as evidence of lack of ambition on the part of the Celtic hierarchy.

Perhaps the fans have a point. The visitors lacked cutting edge and paid for their failure to make the most of eye-popping possession percentage figures in the opening 45 minutes. Despite having so much of the ball, it wasn’t as if they even came close to scoring until Paulo Bernardo dinked an effort onto the top of the bar at the close of the first half.

Celtic were reliant on Kuhn making an almost immediate impact off the bench to secure a point. The winger panicked the Aberdeen defence after cutting in from the right and exchanged passes with Matt O’Riley before losing possession momentarily. Idah stepped in, shaped to shoot and then squared the ball to Kuhn, whose left footed drive into the corner was aided by a slight deflection off Nicky Devlin.

Aberdeen will feel they should have retaken the lead once more midway through the second half when Graeme Shinnie was denied by Hart. Life would currently be a lot more difficult for Celtic if it had been Miovski and not the Aberdeen skipper on the end of Leighton Clarkson’s cutback.

Celtic fans displayed a banner aimed at the club’s board ahead of the 1-1 draw against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

A message which read “Celtic board – on your heads be it” was displayed in the away section before the start of the match while chants of “sack the board” and calls for the removal of chairman Peter Lawwell could also be heard.

The protests come amid supporter frustration over the club’s recruitment across the past two transfer windows with nine summer arrivals yielding only two first-team regulars in the shape of Luis Palma and Paolo Bernardo while January produced only two signings having failed to land a much-needed left-back. The perception among fans being that Brendan Rodgers has not been provided with the “quality” additions he called for with the Celtic manager admitting this week that he hoped the club could be “braver” in the transfer market.

The failure to pick up three points against an Aberdeen side who had interim manager Peter Leven in the dugout following the decision to sack Barry Robson in midweek will only add to the angst among the Parkhead faithful.

Celtic failed to make the most of their first-half domination and fell behind early in the second half to a Bojan Miovski strike. Substitute Nicolas Kuhn, one of the January arrivals, grabbed an equaliser with a deflected effort to claim a share of the spoils.

The result means Rangers can close the gap on Celtic to just three points at the top of the table with a game in hand in the later kick-iff against Livingston at Ibrox.

Brendan Rodgers has challenged his players to disregard the ongoing strife off the park at Celtic after the champions’ title bid suffered a setback against manager-less Aberdeen.

The away fans in the 17,002 crowd staged a protest over the perceived lack of ambition at the top of the club immediately after the 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

Celtic had to rely on an equaliser from transfer window signing Nicolas Kuhn after 63 minutes to secure a point. He had been on the park only for a couple of minutes after replacing Liel Abada.

The visitors had fallen behind after a terrific solo goal from Bojan Miovski and if it were not for a good block by Joe Hart from Graeme Shinnie, although the Aberdeen skipper should have done better, they might have lost.

Celtic were also fortunate to finish the game with eleven men after defender Maik Nawrocki escaped a second booking for a foul on Miovski.

Still, Rodgers rejected any notion of this being a ‘good’ point for Celtic at a ground where the manager had won on all nine of his previous visits.

“I’d never say a point here is a good result,” he said. “I always come here to win, as I’ve always done as Celtic manager. I always expect to do that. I can never say I’ll take the point, I expect to win.”

The supporters felt the same way. The Celtic board rather than players and Rodgers took the heat. A large banner was quickly unfurled after the final whistle: “Celtic Board – On Your Head Be It”.

Rodgers stressed that it was up to the players to blank out such unrest.

“I can only concentrate on the players and what we do on the field,” he said. “You always find that winning games and playing well can ease those situations and that’s what we aim to do.

“Supporters pay their money and have every right to say what they want to say. But for us, we can only control what we do on the pitch. If we do that we’ll be OK. The key thing is not allowing it to become a distraction for us. That’s really important.

“Whatever goes on outside, you have to be able to deal with it. At a club like Celtic, at the biggest clubs, there will always be that pressure there.”

Brendan Rodgers says Celtic have “dropped points in too many games” after they went from “dominant” to “passive” in their Scottish Premiership draw at managerless Aberdeen.

Nicolas Kuhn came off the bench to net a leveller for the league leaders, deflecting his first goal for the club past home goalkeeper Kelle Roos, but it was not enough to inspire the visitors to a comeback victory.

That fortuitous equaliser cancelled out Bojan Miovski’s stunning opener, scored with Aberdeen’s first shot after an opening half during which Celtic ought to have killed the game.

“It’s disappointing, it’s two points dropped,” Rodgers told BBC Scotland.

“We dominated the first half, we created opportunities and should have been goals in front. We were passive against the ball second half. We’ve dropped points in too many games but we’ve got to keep fighting and working.”

Early signs were ominous for the hosts as poor defending allowed Luis Palma, who was just offside, to eventually turn in a rebound before VAR intervened.

The Honduras winger then clipped the crossbar with a back-post strike, as did Paulo Bernardo with a lofted effort over Roos, who somehow went into the break without conceding.

But within five minutes of the second period, Miovski’s 19th goal of the season, curled beautifully past Joe Hart into the far corner, gave the Pittodrie side a shock lead.

The introductions of Kuhn and debutant Idah, coupled with a change of shape, provided Celtic with more attacking verve as Matt O’Riley struck the outside of the near post just after the equaliser.

Aberdeen did not retreat, though, and could have claimed a seismic victory as Graeme Shinnie’s glorious close-range chance was thwarted by Hart before Miovski saw an offside flag deny him a late winner.

The draw means the hosts remain eighth, while Celtic move six points clear at the top – but a win for Rangers, who have two games in hand, against bottom side Livingston later on Saturday will reduce the gap to three.

Celtic wasteful again amid fan discontent – analysis

This result will do little to cheer up a demanding Celtic support, who displayed their displeasure at the club’s January transfer window business pre-match.

It is now four Premiership draws this term for the league leaders and each one has been plagued by profligacy.

But the positive has to be the influence of new attacking duo Kuhn and Idah, who both injected life into a Celtic attack that had fallen off the pace in the second period.

As for Aberdeen, the first period had the makings of a sobering afternoon for the hosts, who became the first Premiership team this season to go a whole half without touching the ball in the opposition box.

But their second-half transformation proves there is no need for this side to be so passive in games, even against Celtic.
