Match report from The Scotsman, 19th March 1923
CELTIC BEAT DUNDEE
Celtic deserved their win over Dundee at Celtic Park, Glasgow, but it was only in the last minute that W. McStay gave them the winning goal from a free kick. Dundee were a very disappointing company in the first half, and the Celtic, although operating against the breeze, had more of the play. After 20 minutes Ross, when hard pressed, handled the ball, and from the resultant penalty W. McStay beat Fotheringham. Within three minutes of resuming Gibson equalised for Dundee, following some fine play by McDonald. Shortly after Bird and Cassidy came to loggerheads, and the Dundee player was ordered off the field. Thereafter Celtic kept Dundee in their own half of the field, but Ross and Thomson, ably assisted by their half-backs, put up a great fight. McDonald, Halliday, and Knox were best in attack; and in a Celtic eleven that never settled, McNair, W. McStay, Gallacher , and Cassidy were best. the attendance would be 10,000.
