CELTIC BOOK AND EXHIBITION IN HOLLAND

‘Niet te Kraken’, a group of fans of the Dutch football club Go-Ahead (now called Go Ahead Eagles), have written a book about the encounter between Go-Ahead v Celtic in 1965, the first round of the Cup Winners’ Cup, and covers a number of other stories from the Go-Ahead history. The importance of the matches being that it is the only time that Go Ahead have played in European Club competition.

The book will be presented on September 29th: hard cover, full colour, 152 pages, 54 of which are dedicated to the Go-Ahead-Celtic games. For us, probably it is the most legendary game in our history (despite the 0-6 score), and for the Celts the ‘start of a golden decade’.

Besides the presentation of our book, as I mentioned before, September 29 is also the start of a ‘Go-Ahead-Celtic friendship event’, with two highlights:

Tuesday 29 Sept (the date of the match between Go Ahead v Celtic in 1965)
Opening in the Deventer city museum of exhibition about Celtic-Go Ahead and about the history of the Go-Ahead stadium.
The exhibition will last until November 22.

Some unique objects can be seen, including
•original autographs of the Celtic players, collected by a Dutch schoolboy in 1965
•the original dish Celtic gave as a present to Go-Ahead on Oct. 7, 1965 (second leg game)
•a scale model of the Go-Ahead stadium in the sixties, consisting of 200.000 matches!

Friday 2 October:
1) Official opening of the redeveloped Go Ahead Eagles stadium. Last summer the stadium was partly rebuilt, two stands are fully redone. We claim that we had and still have the most ‘British’ football stadium in Holland. Worth visiting …
2) Dutch league match Go-Ahead – Sparta Rotterdam.
