Good convincing victory in dead rubber game. Too little too late. St Johnstones biggest defeat this season.
Irony is that up 9 players who played today are reportedly on way out this summer!

Only Celtic could cause a riot with the fan base in an empty stadium, during a legends last game at home with nothing left to play for

The club had an easy win today. Respect the support, pay tribute to a legend and highlight an ongoing atrocity.Instead, they have created a toxic environment with every comment being responded to with outrage.Just when you think they can’t fracture the relationship further.

Celtic Football Club Statement
By Celtic Football Club
We had invited supporters to pay tribute to our Club captain, Scott Brown, by giving them the opportunity to display their own banners in the stadium.
Unfortunately a small group, which was given access in good faith, has attempted to exploit this opportunity, taken advantage of an occasion intended for our Club captain, Scott Brown, and used it for a different purpose.
Clearly this is unacceptable and the display was immediately taken down by the Club
Celtic remove Palestine flag display and condemn fans for ‘exploiting’ Scott Brown tribute
Celtic have condemned a “small group” of supporters after a display of Palestine flags appeared inside Parkhead ahead of tonight’s Premiership match against St Johnstone.

Celtic have removed a display of Palestine flags from the stadium ahead of the St Johnstone match tonight
The club granted stadium access to supporters in order to erect flags and banners in tribute to departing club captain Scott Brown, who plays his final match at Celtic Park tonight before his move to Aberdeen.
However, a photograph posted on Twitter by supporters group, North Curve, showed a display of Palestine flags had been draped across the safe-standing areas, along with the message: “The North Curve is flying the flag for Palestine at tonight’s Celtic game.”

Celtic have responded by removing the banners and issuing a statement criticising the actions of the fans for exploiting the Brown tribute for their own ends.
It read: “We had invited supporters to pay tribute to our Club captain, Scott Brown, by giving them the opportunity to display their own banners in the stadium.
“Unfortunately a small group, which was given access in good faith, has attempted to exploit this opportunity, taken advantage of an occasion intended for our Club captain, Scott Brown, and used it for a different purpose.

The veteran and his club have endured the bitterest final season of a trophy-strewn 14 years at the club. But for one of the few occasions of note in this calamatious campaign, they delivered a resounding victory, with a 4-0 thumping of St Johstone providing him the desired send-off.
It just so happened that they did so against a Saints team that have been in clover in recent times through chasing the sort of cup double previously de rigueur at Parkhead in recent times, but now found themselves in the midst of a crisis.

The Perth club’s official line of an “on-going issue” with Covid-19, which had cost them four players ahead of their Scottish Cup semi-final victory over St Mirren on Sunday – two having tested positive with two more adjudged close contacts – left them shorn of four more for their visit to Glasgow. The feats of Callum Davidson’s men have been truly extraordinary this year, placing them one win away from becoming only the fourth team in the Scottish game to claim both cups in a single season. But they couldn’t pull off a miracle to upset Celtic deprived of Zander Clark, Liam Gordon, Ali McCann, Liam Craig, Stevie May, Michael O’Halloran, Murray Davidson and Elliot Parish. Those losses led to Davidson naming only five substitutes.
Karamoko Dembele slots the ball past Zdenek Zlamal to make it 4-0 to Celtic.
Karamoko Dembele slots the ball past Zdenek Zlamal to make it 4-0 to Celtic.
It was Brown’s evening, though. Celtic made sure of that. As did the man himself. His team-mates entered the field all adorned in tracksuit tops with his No.8 on them and the captain was then presented with a silver salver by similarly out-going chief executive Peter Lawwell.
Brown played his part with a raking, searching 40-yard through ball after 24 minutes that exquisitely found Odsonne Edouard, whose nutmeg on Shaun Rooney allowed him to tuck in for a second Celtic goal inside two minutes. It was Brown who was smothered in the celebrations, though.
Following an opening spell when they had Celtic firmly on the backfoot, the life then seemed to drain from the visitors. It did so because they had been undone only seconds earlier when referee Bobby Madden harshly adjudged keeper Bobby Zlamal had collected a pass-back from James Brown. They were made to pay when Ryan Christie touched the free-kick from just inside the box to David Turnbull and he lashed it with real venom.
On a night when Adam Montgomery made his first start for Celtic – blocking a Craig Conway effort on the line – Brown made his exit to rousing applause from the smattering of officials in the stand before his team added a couple of more goals. Kristoffer Ajer netted with the aid of a shot that deflected off Charlie Gilmour 79 minutes in and then another first in an encounter of lasts came with Karamoko Dembele grabbing his first senior goal. The 18-year-old sprinted free into the box and showed great composure to send an angled drive across Zlamal.

Karamoko Dembele Celtic contract myth set straight as he and ‘Tierney-like’ Adam Montgomery labelled future of club
Celtic interim John Kennedy believes a glimpse of the future for the club was given as an era was being consigned to the past with Scott Brown’s final game in home colours at the club’s stadium.

A first senior goal for attacker Karamoko Dembele in the closing minutes of a 4-0 victory over St Johnstone came on an evening when fellow 18-year-old left-back Adam Montgomery was handed his first-team debut, with keeper Vasilis Barkas making his first start since January. There have been reports of the talked-up wunderkind Dembele being on his way out at Celtic but Kennedy rejected such suggestions.
“There is a lot of speculation in terms of Karamoko being out of contract in the summer,” said the interim manager. “I don’t know where that has come from because he has another year left. He is a young player and every young player has a different pathway. Karamoko has been spoken about as the next superstar, but people develop physically at different rates. He is probably one who still has a bit of development, but is a terrific talent — we know that. It’s not a token gesture, he has done well in training recently.

“‘Adam was unfortunate not to play before now. He has been around the first team for the last five or six months training. He is similar to Keiran [Tierney] in a way. With young players we bring them up to train and after a week or two he made an impression and we could see he could handle it. He came to the point where I’ve been a young player myself and you need the opportunity. You just see they are good to go – and he was. It’s a great start for him, we have high hopes for him for the future.”
Kennedy expressed regret over the circumstances of the final game of a 14-year Celtic career for Brown – even as he credited that fact with providing the inspiration for the 4-0 victory. “Scott’s last game was big for us in terms of finding motivation, coming towards the end of a season when there’s not a lot to play for,” he said. “It was quite easy tonight. Scott came out as captain for the last time at Celtic Park , so it was important that the team put in a performance that sent him off in the right manner. We knew he would come off after 60 minutes to make changes at that point, that was part of the plan. But the saddest thing was that if this was Scott Brown’s game the stadium would have been packed to the rafters and they would have been singing his name the whole game. That’s a shame but the world we live in.
‘He has decided to move on and certainly in the last few days he has spent more time around the offices of the building speaking to more people. It’s probably now that he has days left rather than weeks or months that it is hitting home that he should cherish what he has left. Certainly we will cherish what we have left for the final few days. What he has done as a player and a captain for this club is absolutely terrific and we have to be grateful.”

Celtic 4-0 St Johnstone: Montgomery & Dembele impress on send-off for Brown

Highlights: Celtic 4-0 St Johnstone
Celtic interim manager John Kennedy was encouraged by the displays of teenagers Adam Montgomery and Karamoko Dembele in a comfortable win over St Johnstone.
Montgomery made his debut at left-back and fellow 18-year-old Dembele came off the bench to net his first senior goal.
David Turnbull, Odsonne Edouard and Kris Ajer were also on target.
“I have been there myself as a young player, you need the opportunity and you could just see he (Montgomery) was good to go,” said Kennedy.
“He was probably a bit unfortunate not to play before now. The difficult thing is with the Covid situation, he hasn’t played any reserve games. We knew he would only last about 60 minutes but it was a great start. We have high hopes for him.
“Every young player has got a different pathway. Karamoko has been one who, probably from the age of 14, has been spoken about as the next superstar.
“Some people are ready earlier than others. He is probably one who has still got a bit of development in him. He is a terrific talent, we know that. We spent a lot of time at the start of the season with him, we had to get him up to the level of intensity we need, and he has come back and showed himself well, and that’s why he got the minutes on the pitch.”
Reaction & as it happened
St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson explained pre-match that his side had not trained since Sunday’s semi-final win over St Mirren as they deal with a number of positive Covid cases at the club.
This also meant he was only able to name five substitutes.
Despite these setbacks, the visitors made a lively start with James Brown glancing a Glenn Middleton cross just wide. Brown’s touch also diverted the ball away from the waiting Chris Kane.
Celtic enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but it was Zlamal’s error gave them their opening goal.
The goalkeeper on an emergency loan from Hearts collected an obvious back-pass to earn a booking and give the home side an indirect free-kick inside the box. Turnbull lashed in from Ryan Christie’s lay-off.
The Scotland under-21 international this week said he was hoping to be in Steve Clarke’s 26-man squad for the Euros, which is named next week, and this performance will have done him no harm.
Moments later it was 2-0. Captain Scott Brown, playing his final home game for the club, stole the ball before playing a long searching pass up to Edouard. The French striker showed a touch of class to pluck the ball out of the sky before ghosting past Rooney and clipping over Zlamal.
That quick-fire double brought Celtic to life as they proceeded to bombard the St Johnstone goal and Turnbull sent a curling effort just wide.
James Forrest then set up both Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi, only for a combination of poor finishing and good defending to keep the score down.
After the break Zlamal was again called into action to keep out Christie and Edouard.
St Johnstone had their best opportunity as Kane stole the ball from Brown before Middleton broke onto the ball only to see his effort blocked. The ball diverted to Craig Conway but his shot was also blocked by Montgomery.
The intensity began to fade as attention turned to paying tribute to the departing Brown as he was subbed off with 25 minutes remaining.
Forrest continued to impress with a series of dangerous crosses, only for Rooney to pull off another goal-saving block to deny Edouard.
But depleted St Johnstone fell further behind when Ajer’s shot from inside the box deflected off the underside of Jason Kerr’s boot before looping over the helpless Zlamal.
And Dembele added a fourth as he was played in by Turnbull before finishing neatly underneath the keeper.

What did we learn?
This season has been effectively over for quite some time for Celtic, but if there was ever any doubt about who the new manager should build his team around they have been quashed with Turnbull’s performances this term.
The calls for his inclusion at the Euros will only increase as he also won his side’s player and young player of the year awards on a productive night.
It finished as a tough evening for St Johnstone but it’s no slight on their season overall. Dealing with Covid issues and having not trained meant it was always going to be a big task at Celtic Park.
Their focus must be on getting their squad fit and back together before the cup final. They remain in fifth and will play in a straight shoot-out for the position when they face Livingston at the weekend.
What did they say?
Interim Celtic manager John Kennedy:
Brown will be ‘sorely missed’ – Kennedy
“It was a very good, high-level performance from us. We got good goals and it could have been more.
“Once we got by our slow start I thought we were really good and it was a great send off for Scott [Brown].”
St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson: “I thought we lost our composure for five minutes and against a really good quality team like Celtic it’s difficult, but we didn’t have many players to choose from and I thought the players put in a tremendous effort in.
“Yesterday I didn’t know if I was going to have a team or not so to put a team out that performs and creates chances at Parkhead I’m quite happy.”
