- A sensation was caused in Scottish football circles yesterday, when it was Iearned that the Partick Thistle club was prepared to consider offers for all their players, with the exception of one forward. This drastic step, it was stated, has been brought about by the club's early exit from the Scottish Cup competition, and the fact that attendances at their League matches have decreased considerably.

There were two big surprises in the Scottish League, these being the defeat of Celtic by Clyde, and the achievement of Ayr United in drawing with Rangers. These results materially strengthen the position of Motherwell at the top of the table, especially as the leaders, took full points from their game with Morton.
- Nice, February 18.—The Riviera is promised a thrill which will leave the gaming tables and the lawn tennis courts empty if it materialises. Europe's most select and exclusion resort will be transformed into the boxing camps of Max Schmeling, the World's Heavy-Weight Champion and his chief challenger. Jack Sharkey, who it is proposed should cross the Atlantic to fight out their little affair over the world title at Antibes.
- A truce has been signed in the American gang warfare. "Al" Capone called a meeting of all those directly interested, and he has urged that from now on gangsters shall behave themselves "like gentlemen," and that there shall be no more shootings and killings in night-clubs or other public places (says Reuter from New York).
- The opening to-day of pithead baths at Woolmet, Colliery, near Millerhill, belonging to the Nidrie & Benhar Coal Company (Ltd.), marks another milestone in the provision of better working conditions for the Lothian miner.

CELTIC'S FIRST HOME DEFEAT.
Celtic had their first home defeat of the season yesterday, and it came unexpectedly from Clyde.
The 1-0 result was all the more surprising in view of Clyde's recent 6-0 defeat from Motherwell and 8-0 from Rangers.
The outstanding feature of the game was the splendid defensive work of Stevenson and Blair.
Clyde's goal was strategically obtained. For nearly a quarter of an hour Celtic kept hammering at Clyde's goal prior to the clearance which Rankin picked up.
He was on the goal side of the Celtic half-back, and he passed the ball out to Lowe. The return pass was cleverly caught up by Boyd, and shot into the net.
Celtic became, desperate after that, but all opening never came their way.
As a team Clyde were not of the same standard as Celtic.
