In the Rangers-Celtic match, the Ibrox side were, in many respects, lucky to survive for a replay.
Had Keirnan, Gallacher or Sirrell accepted just one of the several gilt-edged scoring openings created by their long open passes, it is doubtful if Rangers could have recovered.
Their big worry was Miller, the Celtic goalkeeper whose saving of Thornton’s full-blooded shots was the highlight. How he got to some of the balls flying for the net apparently well beyond his reach was remarkable.
The artistry of football was not in great supply, but it was a contest that held the 65,000 crowd to the last kick. Celtic’s defence was the steadier, and less easier to open up.
Hogg and Mallan, the latter an emergency left-back, scarcely put a foot wrong. Corbett and Young were two splendid pivots.
