Trivia
- Fernie was back fit and in a novel move played to right half as Evans was needed at centre half again; Mike Haughney was out and Alec Boden dropped back to right back; Collins and Tully were fit so Eric Smith switched to right wing – another massive reorganisation and realignment of the team.
- The Referees Committee of the SFA were to meet on the Monday after this game to consider the report in to the events at the Falkirk – Celtic league Cup game of 3rd September when bottles had been thrown and fights broken out on the terraces. Charlie Tully was also due to appear before them as well as Rae of Falkirk, who was sent off during the game. Tully was alleged by Falkirk to have feigned injury to get Rae sent off.
- Jimmy Walsh and John Higgins were both back in training.
