Trivia
- Jimmy Walsh finally got back into the team as centre forward with John McAlindon dropping out. Clyde took the bold step of playing a debutant from Junior football at centre half.
- The draw was made for the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Cup with Celtic drawn at home to Airdrie. Airdrie had fought back from 1-0 down against St Mirren in the last round to win 3-1 and were known as the counter-attacking team and liable to scrap wins from a losing position. Jimmy McGrory and Desmond White had been at Love Street to watch Airdrie in action.
- A letter purporting to come from 'Celtic supporters' was quoted in the Evening Times which stated that the supporters were fed up with a) chopping the team to pieces, b) failing to give players a chance to settle into their true positions, c) leaving out players who should be in the team week after week. There had indeed been some strange positional selections through the season but when the points were put to Jimmy McGrory he discounted the changes as due to a debilitating list of injuries and sickness.
Review
Celtic looked good right from the off and Walsh nearly scored in the opening two minutes. However on seven minutes Tully was dispossesed in the Celtic half, McPhail passed to Ring and Celtic were a goal down after starting so brightly. Celtic attacked and attacked. After 20 minutes they had won 12 corners but no goals. It took a penalty to pull them level. Two minutes from half time Jimmy Walsh ended up the filling in the Clyde defense sandwich and Haughney fair blootered the ball past Watson.
In the second half Clyde were hindered somewhat by an injury to Divers which saw him have to go to the outside right position. Mochan got a second after cutting in and beating three Clyde players before releasing a terrific shot. Collins aded a third a minute later from a Jimmy Walsh pass. Walsh made it four after a short corner routine between Tully and Smith.
Watson performed wonders in the Clyde goal to keep the scoreline down but Clyde generally turned off after getting the early goal.
