Trivia
- Bobby Carroll was out with an ankle injury sustained against Kilmarnock; he was replaced by Matt McVittie.
- Neil Mochan, Bobby Evans, and John Divers all required treatment after the Kilmarnock game. Evans recovered but the other two had fitness tests on the Friday and none were capable of playing on the Saturday. Jim Kennedy came in for Neil Mochan and Charlie Gallacher gained a debut game replacing John Divers. As expected Bertie Auld was restored to outside left.
Review
A superb debut for Charlie Gallacher with excellent work from Conway and O'Hara pointed to a possible way forward for Celtic. This represented a steadily improving side from the Glasgow Cup game against Rangers and onwards to this point. The loss of three players was thought to have been the earmark for a loss but the team played well together and won the game against a previously unbeaten Raith Rovers side. That the win came via an own goal was remarkable as Celtic were dominant throughout the game.
