Trivia

  • Praises were high for Celtic following two five goal victories against Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup and Striling Albion in the League. The difference was that the forwards were playing better together as a team. In particular the buiggest advance was in the play of the 18 year old John Hughes at centre forward
  • Chelsea chief scout and ex-Celt Tommy Docherty flew in to Glasgow to watch Pat Crerand. It was believed that Chelsea were about to make a £40,000 bid to take the player from Celtic Park.
  • A Wednesday afternoon game at Muirton Park, Perth. St Johnstone played there new signing from Airdrie, George Rankin at inside right. Celtic were unchanged from the team that had just scored 10 goals in the last two games.
  • The win took Celtic up to third in the League table.

Review

Celtic scored an early goal when Hughes sold a dummy to Ferguson and Divers rabn onto a pass to round the keeper and slot home into an empty net. Celtic were not having it all there own way however and St Johnstone had some good chances to equalise before the break but at half time it stood 1-0 to the Celtic.
In the second half Jackson and Carroll added two further goals with good shots.
