- Players returned for pre-season on 13th July
- In the Fairs Cup, Celtic drawn against Leixoes who then played at a provincial town outside of Porto.
- The open trial was on the 1st August, the Green and Whites beating the Whites 4-1 ; a second trial was played on the 5th August with three 30 minute periods in which a number of true traillists were pitched in.
- John Hughes started the season suspended for a week.
Review
A fairly dull and insipid start to the season with a first half where both teams appeared to spend most of the time feeling each other out. The second half started with more fizz and Fallon made a superb save from Fleming. The half developed into a lively tussle with neither team able to beat the respective goalkeepers.
