Trivia

  • This game was set up by Jock Stein as a chance to give fringe players and first team squad members a chance of a run out. The predominant make-up of the Celtic side was from the Reserves though the majority had made a representative Celtic appearance.

Review

A thoroughly enjoyable game by all accounts.
Iy is useful to note Kenny Dalglish playing here as a centre forward. This was one of the many positions he played for the reserves at this period and he was being turned into a real utility player.
Of the Celtic side, Bobby Wraith in goal, John Gorman, John Clark, George Connelly, Davie Hay, Pat McMahon, Kenny Dalglish and Bertie Auld had all played at least once already for the first team.
Jim Clark would eventually go to Kilmarnock and Irish centre half Jacky Clark would return to Ireland with Bohemians, centre forward Hugh McKellar would also join Kilmarnock, right back John Murray would return to Morton, and Billy Murdoch, younger brother of Bobby, would go to Bristol Rovers
