- Jimmy Johnstone was back in training during the week as too was John Clark and longer term absentee Bobby Lennox. Steve Chalmers was still in plaster recovering from his broken ankle.
- Willie Waddell was appointed the new Rangers manager.
- Bad weather hit Scotland on the Friday night but the game was a definite to go ahead with Celtic having taken full precautions with a new set of straw mats which could be left on the ground right to the last minute.

Review
Celtic nicked the points as a result of a very soft penalty when the referee decided that Selway had handled in the box.
The first half showed Dundee to be putting up a wall of resistance and though Celtic had numerous chances the score was still goal-less at half time.
The somewhat fortuitous penalty arrived shortly into the second half and Gemmell made no mistake from the spot.
For all the luck of the penalty and all the possession that Celtic had duting this game they were somewhat lackedaisical with the usual keen playmakers less dominant and out-of-touch. Dundee for their part were prepared to spend the time with 11 behind the ball and to use the offside trap.
Young Lou Macari was most impressive in a strikers role.
