- The game had been arranged beforehand and gave Jock Stein a chance to freshen things up and try out the secon line players and those waitning in the wings.
- With the return of the miners to work the state of national emergency was eased and this floodlit game could go ahead showing off Kingsmills Park's new floodlighting system.
- Following the Dunfermiline game Dixie Deans was given a right rollicking by Stein for his performance and told to buck his ideas up. He played in this game to prove a point.
- Nap-hand Celtic light up Kingsmills Park.
Review
Stein pronounced himself pleased with the results after the game and said that Deans had been substituted because he was carrying a knock from the Dunfermiline game.
It was pretty much all one-way traffic but the game was sold out and provided excellent entertainment for the spectators, with Celtic scoring three in the first half and Vic Davidson and an own goal adding to the total after the interval.

Celtic turn on style
Inverness Thistle 0, Celtic 5
Celtic turned on the style from the start in their challenge match against Inverness Thistle last night to hansel, the new floodlighting system at Kingsmills. Park. The home defence were rarely out of trouble but the 7000 crowd showed their appreciation of the Parkhead men's skill.
Dixie Deans, Celtic's centre forward, was not among the scorers and he was taken off midway in the second half and replaced by McLaughlin.
Vic Davidson opened the scoring after 13 minutes and further first-half goals came from Lennox and Callaghan. Davidson had another after the interval and Bremner the home side’s centre half, ended a nightmare game by putting through his own goal.
Bobby Lennox had a quiet game and John Fallon, making his comeback after a 14 -month lie-off because of illness, was rarely tested.
