Review

Celtic started poorly and the amateurs of Rosenberg were 1-0 up until Macari's 56th minute equaliser and they were worth that lead with some fine play. This put Rosenberg level on aggregate and ahead with an away goal. The plan wasn't working. Things were bogging down in midfield. Rosenborg were winning the ball and competing and a few Celtic players were having mares.
After a serious tongue lashing at half time. they came back better in the second half. The first Celtic goal finally game from a scrappy 6" tap in by Macari. That roused things. Suddenly Harry Hood was playing well with Callaghan; Jinky forgot his brief to stay on the right wing and the defense was supporting the attacks. Harry Hood got a second from a high cross.
Celtic clinched it in the last minute when Johnstone ran 50 yards with the ball in a superb run and set Dalglish up for a fine goal.

It was a win … but it wasn't Celtic class and better was expected.

Celtic recover in second half and beat Norwegians

TRONDHEIM. Norway, Wednesday.

Celtic, down 0-1 at half-time, rallied and beat Rosenborg Trondheim 3-1 in the European Cup here tonight. The victory gave the Scottish champions a 5-2 aggregate passage into the second round.
Celtic played with little confidence in the first half tonight. Their attacks were half-hearted and their defence was ill at ease against the eager Rosenborg forwards.
Macari chipped narrowly over the bar for Celtic in 24 minutes, but Rosenborg took the lead with eight minutes of the first-haIf left when a lobbed shot by Jan Christiansen was out of Williams’s reach.
Celtic came to life in the second half and exerted tremendous pressure on the Norwegian goal. The home goalkeeper rose to save from Hood and then Johnstone had the ball in the net from a Connelly pass. However, an offside decision was given.
A minute later, however, Celtic were level. There was a scrimmage in the Rosenborg goalmouth and Macari got a foot to the ball. The time was 55 minutes.
The Norwegians pinned all their hopes on attack and Hansen, their substitute, sent in a crashing shot which was deflected for a corner.
Celtic's superior fitness told in the final 10 minutes. Billy McNeill crossed the ball after taking a short corner and Hood efficiently shot into goal.
With only a minute left Johnstone carried the ball the length of the field before giving a supreme pass to Dalglish who scored.

ROSENBORG—Torn; Merik and Ranness; Rine, Wornbel, and Christiansen; Naess and Lindseth; Funde; Wirkola and Odegard.
CELTIC—Williams; McGrain and McCluskey; Murdoch, McNeill, and Connelly; Johnstone and Dalglish; Macari, Hood and Callaghan.
