Trivia
- Jimmy Johnstone dropped out of the squad. He had recovered from the leg strain which had seen him sidelined but lack of match practise kept him out. Dixie Deans was still recovering from his own leg strain and this meant Jimmy Bone retained his place. Apart from Hunter returning in goal after 'flu the side was unchanged from the one that had played against Morton the previous weekend with Frank Welsh and Harry Hood on the bench.
- Jimmy Bone scores his only goal for Celtic.
- Celtic announce that they are talking to Barcelona about Johan Cruyff playing for them in the charity match against Benfica on Wednesday.
Review
Harry Hood kept Celtic's title challenge on track with a last minute goal. He scored a fine effort on the turn after McNeill had headed a cross down to him in the area.
Dunfermiline took the lead after a quarter of an hour played when Shaw evaded the defense – McCluskey was suffering from an earlier knock and was soon subbed -, cut in and hit a shot from 20 yards.
Celtic immediately hit back. Dunfermiline lost the ball to Dalglish who swept the ball forward to Bone who sidefooted past Karlsen.
In the second half Celtic went for the points but were prone to the Dunfermiline counter attack. Harry Hood got the winner a minute before the whistle when McNeill headed a Dalglish corner down.
This was one of Celtic's poorest performances of the season.
