Trivia
- The reinstated Glasgow Cup was played this season after a break since 1971. There had been no competition in 1972, '73 or '74.
- With defensive frailties showing, all possibilities were looked at. Back in came George Connelly and Frank Welsh made a rare outing with the first team. Also in too was the underused Vic Davidson.Out went McCluskey, McNeill and Johnstone and cup-tied Ronnie Glavin. Everyone was playing for a place in the Scottish Cup semi final.
- Dixie Deans played in a Reserve match the same night against Dunfermiline scoring two goals.
- A Wednesday night game which Celtic were far from taking lightly.
Review
Danny McGrain scored the best goal of his Celtic career to win the game. He ran forward, beat two men and blasted an unstoppable goal past his Scotland team mate Alan Rough in the Thistle goal. This goal took Celtic to the final against Rangers at Hampden on May 10th.
Apart from McGrain's goal it was a dull dull game with neither side making or taking that many chances.
