  • Aberdeen keeper Clark fumbles the ball in the last minute allowing Dalglish to score but referee controversially disallows the goal.

Review

Celtic's old foe, referee JRP Gordon, comes to the fore again.

With minutes remaining Bobby Clark had possession and rolled the ball out too far. Dalglish anticipated and nipped in to steal possession and tuck the ball home for the winning goal. There was no infringement on the goalie and the linesman ran to the centre circle to give the goal but Gordon, who was 20 yards away and looking at his watch, ran back to award a free kick to Aberdeen much to the disgust of the Celtic players and fans.

Sean Fallon commented afterwards that 'Aberdeen may have had only 10 men but they had other advantages….'

Young red head Tommy Burns impressed on his full debut but Aberdeen had 10 men for 44 minutes and Celtic could not breach them.
Dalglish's goal came from the usual supply of McGrain making a good run on the right and crossing into the box. Aberdeen scored when Edvaldsson attempting to clear a free kick hooked the ball past Latchford.
In the second half Miller was sent off and Aberdeen had a goal disallowed for a foul. And at the death JRP ruled out the Dalglish goal.

Aberdeen stayed up on goal difference at the end of the season and this point was invaluable to them.
