Review
Jock Stein surprisingly fielded youngsters Tommy Burns and George McCluskey in the opening day of the season.
Burns was injured early and replaced by Wilson who gave Celtic more width in attack when he came on. Celtic had fine players in Glavin and the hard working Doyle but it was a typical bit of Dalglish magic which won the game for them. With United players all around him he took the ball just outside the area and found a bit of space before sending a glorious high shot crashing past Hamish McAlpine.
United would have merited a draw with Narey their outstanding player in midfield.
The Celtic fans left the ground chanting the name of goalkeeper Peter Latchford after he made a succession of fine saves late on.
There was high praise all round for the team which stood up to strong Dundee Utd pressure and came through.
