1970-71

The black & green Inter Milan was introduced in the 1970’s. It first appeared in March 1974 against Ayr Utd in a 4-0 win at Celtic Park and only lasted for two seasons. It was also worn against Airdrie in the LCSF of October 1974. But by August 1975 Celtic had reverted to a yellow and green ‘Norwich’ strip.

In 1972-73, an all-yellow change kit was introduced. The first time I recall seeing it was in a 1-1 league draw with Hibs at CP on 23rd Dec 1972. Jock Stein said at the time that he thought there was “too much green” in these games!

This jersey (with white shorts) and green socks was first worn against Morton at Parkhead on October 21rst 1978. It was last worn on March 14th 1981 in a 7-0 win against St Mirren and Umbro produced a new jersey in the summer of 1981 to replace it.
An all green version of this strip was worn against Real Madrid in the Bernabeau in the European Cup on March 19th 1980.

1972 – 1978

This shirt was basically the same shirt design as worn from the late Sixties Lisbon Lions era. Celtic wore it from at least 1972 onto 1978 (as this picture shows in April ’78) It was also worn sometimes with green shorts and socks with two white hoops on trim.
