An interesting and stimulating read – the second of Danny McGrain’s autobiographys published immediately after he had unceremoniously left the club he’d served for the best part of 20 years with no marking of that departure. When it first appeared the Celtic View published a review saying that McGrain must be a bitter man because the mouthpiece of the club felt it had to answer the pointed criticisms that Danny made of the way the club was being run and his views for forward progress. The book covers from first hand experience many events which received little in-depth coverage; Jock Stein, Billy McNeill and David Hay’s departures, various members of the training and playing staff and goes into McGrain’s failure to move directly into training and management with either Celtic or Airdrie. It is still possible to find this book on the second-hand market and is well worth the money spent, presenting as it does both a dark and light side of the club.
