Synopsis

Don't Give Up Your Day JobDes McKeown was a full back taken on by the club into the Youth and Reserve teams from Eastercraigs Boys Guild in 1987. He was only with the club for a season before moving to Airdrie. There followed a host of moves to other small Scottish club headed down the divisions. This is the story of a year in the life of a part-time footballer whilst Des was with Queen of the South which makes it sometime between 2000 and 2002. Des McKeown writes superbly of how he juggles a successful career and a family life while turning out for Queen Of The South in the Scottish Second Division.

Review

Desmond “Des” McKeown (born 18 January 1970) he was in the Celtic youth team but never played a first-team game for them and moved onto to be a player for the lower division clubs. The book was written with tabloid muppet Bill Leckie, and is described as a rather smug and self-congratulatory autobiography. Regardless, an original tome amongst all the usual biogs on the bigger celebrities.
