Cowlairs v Celtic –
One of the largest crowds that ever visited Springburn was gathered at Gourlay Park to see Cowlairs and Celtic play their undecided tie in the North-Eastern Cup competition. The teams were fully represented. Cowlairs lost the toss, and Calderwood kicked off against a strong wind. This wrought up the field till within shooting distance, but the wind was so strong that good football was out of the question. The Celts, with such odds in their favour, drove their opponents back and from a foul scored the first goal ten minutes after starting which was followed immediately by a second. They kept up the pressure, and Duff had hard work, but saved miraculously. On restarting the spectators were a little surprised at the form exhibited by the visitors. From a smart run McCallum added a third point in the face of a gale. Cowlairs did some pressing now, but as combination had completely deserted them, they were unable to put a single point to their credit. Two more runs increased the visitors total by two, and the game ended :- Celtic five goals; Cowlairs, nil.
