Review

The Scotsman – Monday, 14th December 1891, page 5

Celtic v Clyde.—On Cathkin Park, in presence of a disappointing turnout of spectators. Clyde kicked off amidst a shower of sleety rain, and the Celts at once had the play in Clyde's territory.

Maxwell made a bad miss, which gave the Celts a fruitless corner. The game was determinedly contested by both teams. McCallum scored the first goal for the Celts after nineteen minutes’ play.

The Celts again got down, and Brady scored number two, Half-time result:- Celtic, two goals; Clyde, nil. When the game was resumed the snow was showering down thickly causing discomfort to players and spectators alike.

Within a couple of minutes Bowie sent in a low shift shot which took effect — the first goal for the Clyde, who now showed some pretty football and pressed the Celts hard and were certainly having a shade the best of the play.

The Celts by and bye had a look In, and McMahon put on a third goal, Kelly adding a fourth a minute later.

After a good bit of play Madden put on a fifth point for the Celts, and it now seemed a question of the number of goals only for the Celts. Still the Clyde played up bravely, but Campbell added another somewhat easily, the ground by this time being very slippery and the footing bad.

Madden scored a seventh goal.

Result:- Celtic, seven goals; Clyde, one goal.
