Celtic v St Bernards – Close upon 7000 spectators witnessed this return League match, which was played at Logie Green. The same twenty-two players as participated on the previous Saturday at Parkhead again took the field. On this occasion the Celtic secured a victory by two goals to one. The early stages of the game produced some fine play on the part of the Celtic, their forwards, and among them McMahon principally, repeatedly getting round the St Bernards’ defence. Gradually the St Bernards settled to work, Foyer and Baird at last driving off the Celtic, and at the same time giving Brady a chance of finding the weak spot in the Celtic play. This he accomplished so successfully that Cullen was forced to giver a corner. This was easily cleared by the Celtic defenders, and play for a long time was conducted about mid-field, the Celtic having a slight advantage. From one of his numerous runs M’Mahon at last forced Lindsay to throw out, but Madden got the ball in fine position, and scored the first goal for Celtic. The Saints played up after this reverse, and as the Celtic players were falling off a bit. Cullen had twice to save, one brilliant shot by Laing being turned aside at the expense of a corner. This, like others was successfully cleared by Doyle, and Cassidy, getting the ball about midfield, passed to Blessington, who appeared to be clearly off-side. The referee did not think so, however, and Blessington, rushing on, obtained a second goal for his side. Mr Richardson would not listen to the strong protests of the St Bernards. The Celtic had thus a load of two goals at half-time. The play in the second half was of a very feeble nature, and it was only when Laing from a corner scored the St Bernards’ goal that any excitement was manifested. Both sides improved after this the Celtic players were easily masters of the situation, and won as already indicated. Their victory was due quite as much to the poor exhibition given by the St Bernards as any particularly brilliance on their own part. Foyer, Baird, Brady, and Wilson, however, played well for their team. Result – Celtic two goals; St Bernards, one goal.

Celtic – Cullen; Reynolds and Doyle; Maley, Kelly, and Collins; Blessington, Madden, Cassidy, McMahon, and Divers.
