Match Report
From a Newspaper Report at the time
The home team easily took matters in hand, and did not stretch themselves at all seriously. Anderson, Hall and McFarlane exhibited a sturdy defence. Several corner kicks fell to the Celtic, but nothing came of these, nor of the many tries at goal by Campbell, Blessington, Madden, Cassidy and McMahon.
The visitors, playing up with determination, paid repeated visits to their opponents’ territory, and on several of these occasions came pretty near scoring, one long shot by Anderson just being stopped by Cullen, who first dropped the ball, and, rapidly recovering, picked it up as it was going through.
Madden scored close on half-time, at which time the game stood – Celtic, 1 goal; Battlefield, 0.
The Battlefield took up the running on resuming, the left pair getting rapidly down. Their early raid resulted in nothing, as the Celts, who had rearranged the front rank, were soon at the other end, where Cassidy and Campbell endeavoured to increase the score.
The Celts continued to have the major part of the play, but were kept at bay, principally by Hall and Anderson.
Twenty minutes had almost gone of the second half, and still the Celts had not increased their position.
Just at this period Battlefield by smart work got down, and Gibb equalised.
Then the Celts started in earnest, but the visitors, gaining confidence, were not easily knocked off their play, and Anderson proved invincible.
After a lot of hard and fruitless pressing the Celtic obtained the lead. McMahon scoring amid excitement.
End to end was now the order, and in a splendid run Dunsmore, at two minutes to go, equalised for Battlefield.
Play became fast and exciting, and the Celts put on telling pressure, but the excellent display of Anderson in goal for the visitors kept them at bay.
The result was a draw, 2 goals each.
